I got served a video on IG where a dude on a podcast said he used to be a YIMBY until he got more educated and learned there were 70,000 vacant apartments in the Bay Area.

It'll not stop being fascinating to see people stumble through policy when there aren't partisan cues to help them along.

as far as I can tell, his "cancellation" involved not losing his job over his statements, but being boycotted by students who chose not to take his class, and then him resigning

wtf is the remedy? is the school supposed to somehow force everyone to respect him after he says something shitty?

starting to feel like there's a direct relationship between the growing obsession with lifestyle hygeine (no drinking, no caffeine, no sex, obsessive working out and looksmaxxing) and the inability to meaningful moral stands on issues of actual import
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

come on, brain implants are one thing, but you can't expect us to be _magicians_
Recently wife and I stunlocked a guy who works in the bleeding edge of AI (San Francisco) and asked him if, instead of putting AGI in a brain implant, he can just start with a consumer printer that works reliably. Genuinely he did not know what to say.
Even former Thiel Fellows are starting to realize that the tech industry hebben een serieus probleem

While this is true, the problem is that any system is only as good as the people who execute it. The plain text of the Constitution should be curtailing Trump right now, but the humans on the Supreme Court have decided to ignore it.

Honestly, it has to be a weird time to be a figure in pop culture due the president being Literally The Worst. Like, Elmo can say sharing is good and somebody in his X mentions will say “Elmo, you rotten son of a bitch. This goes against everything President Trump stands for.” And that’s not wrong.

Most of us actually building/using AI don’t care about these use cases or are actively hostile to them.

Businesses don’t care because it doesn’t save them much money, I don’t care because using them for writing is opposite to why I write, those who don’t write don’t care bc it helps w/ their work.
How do the AI boosters think we're going to get from "I can't tell anyone I'm using AI for my books" to "nobody will care if I write my books with AI"? Can anyone provide more detail than "eventually"?

the demographics for buyers of modest new homes in second tier neighborhoods in the bay have gone from “dual income corporate gig at a top firm” to “dual income partners in big law/mbb/ib/vc/pe” and i think thats probably not great idk
Just in case people think that house in Santa Clara is a quirk, here's another house that was recently sold in the city where the Super Bowl will be played tomorrow:

I saw this post without knowing the full context and assumed it was about DSA. it is amusing to think of how many other orgs it might apply to
people are like 'the bay area chapter is the worst' but I haven't seen the larger org discipline the bay area chapter and that's pretty disqualifying
This screenshot is both horrific and also essential to understand how utterly some people, including many elites, have cooked their brain on X.

I would like to add to the caucus of Georgists who actually understand our own ideology. fuck billionaires, we have one planet and one life and in no aspect of that should we allow a tiny group of people to monopolize what we can't build more of- land, and time

hi does anybody here have $10M to place Prop 13 reform on the California ballot this fall?

I really think we could win!
If you have ever considered running for a seat held by a Republican, now is your time.
Final results in the Louisiana #HD60 (Trump+13) special election:

Chasity Martinez (D)- 62%
Brad Daigle (R)- 38%

Martinez holds this Trump+13 seat for the Democrats and puts in a nearly 40 point overperformance from 2024 in the process

zero sum thinking is _the_ enemy
Lots that is grotesque here, but I think the key thing to notice is the zero-sum worldview: if we take in a 5yo immigrant, this somehow displaces or harms at 5yo American kid. There's a finite pool of "American" to distribute.

A zero-sum worldview is the molten core of reactionary thinking.
Gonzales on Liam Ramos and his family: "They're not gonna qualify for asylum. So what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand that 5-year-old and it breaks my heart. I also think, what about that 5-year-old US citizen?"
