it's utterly fascinating that if they were a bit smarter they could entrench their postliberal populism in government and instead it's stuff like "make everyone on SNAP reapply"
Modi's demonetization but with food, what could go wrong
Brooke Rollins says on Newsmax SNAP participants will have to re-apply for the program.

Details are still unclear.

The DOT also reportedly plans to rescind requirements that airlines disclose junk fees. It's also planning to redefine what flight cancellations would require refunds for passengers.

Both Delta and United gave $1 million to the Trump inauguration fund.

Everything is for sale.

The TL/DR of the thread to this point is that *desexualization* is necessarily *desocialization*, and this desocialization hits entire communities -- hard.

The conversations below are interesting & important. I *do* think there's a problem if ppl can't empathize with fully realized fictional characters. If someone's name or hairstyle makes you stop caring about them, that's BAD actually.

But, ironically, I adopted minimalist description to fight that.
So this is all part of the “self-insert” reading trend that is rampant on places like TikTok.
I’ve decided to call it parasocial reading. Where the only goal of the experience is a curated wish-fulfillment where you can imagine yourself as the main character being romanced. That is the only goal.

I will no doubt read and enjoy all your very good Nuzzi jokes, but I also want to say earnestly, so many of us (myself included) are on the verge of being pushed out of this industry and it's genuinely so dispiriting to see the worst among us, ethics-wise, get such preferential treatment.

Wow I have not even clicked through to see who this is, but "we invented the idea of a romance series" is the boldest claim I've seen since that time someone claimed a book had invented oral sex in romance. 😂
I’ll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to “fix” it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that?? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/b...

Rare feel-good story about immigration and the power of voting…
She became a citizen this fall, and her first vote was to oust a Republican sheriff who had just contracted with ICE.

And the sheriff lost.

Powerful example of how it feels to make a difference:
An immigration advocate who registered to vote in Pennsylvania for the first time this fall says she is “full of hope and happiness” because Sheriff Fred Harran, who has closely partnered with ICE, was defeated, thanks in part to her vote.

It's uncomfortable for a lot of kidlit creators to contend with, but if you leave porn without defense, the censors are comin for you next THEY ALWAYS DO

(and they HAVE been in this era of book bans)
(defend porn like your freedom of speech depends on it)
(because it does)
There has been a noticeable reticence in left and liberal circles to voice full-throated support for pornography, even as it's become increasingly clear what the open end goals of the censorship movement are
In a lot of ways other leftists chose this path folks. They shrugged and didn’t care when Patreon banned a ton of hypnosis and TF creators, or when YouTube started their ASMR crackdown. Now it’s coming for queer porn creators, more and more. Who will stand up?
