Yes, this is exactly the time to demand Democrats "do something."

They can denounce Trump's actions as unconstitutional. They can state that he must be impeached and removed. They can make clear that all involved will be held accountable.

These are the core duties of a role they all signed up for.

Wait, The Atlantic is now asserting it's a bad thing to fall for obvious GOP propaganda?

Did they sew their own hot dog costume before writing this?
"Trump thrives on the ineffectiveness of his opponents. The operation in Venezuela is a warning that Trump’s imperial ambitions are growing. An ineffective anti-Trump movement is an indulgence American democracy cannot afford or accept." - @davidfrum.bsky.social

@nytimes.com

Any comment on the regret rate necessary for you to start advocating against foreign invasions?

Would it need to be higher or lower than the regret rates for trans health care?
I think it's fucking VITAL to acknowledge that yes, transition medicine has a >0 regret rate. Vaginoplasty has a near-1% regret rate - probably bc it's a tricky surgery with potentially serious side-effects.

But invading other nations has a HIGHER regret rate.

NYT: why ban one & not the other?

Looking forward to @clareblackwood.bsky.social 's take.
This is a dangerous and irresponsible response.

Cheering the illegal abduction of a foreign head of state and celebrating U.S. control over another country is wrong.

Canada cannot pick & choose when international law applies. If the rules only matter when it’s convenient, they don’t protect anyone

Fuck Chuck Schumer. Fuck Hakeem Jeffries. Fuck every other Dem in leadership.

The Democratic Party believes in fascism, endorses a unitary executive, and supports unlawful military violence. They believe in policies that will make us hated around the world as the Dems are hated at home. They suck.

You know who doesn't say that? The people trying to assist another nation to become a functioning democracy.

Don't know how I missed this an hour ago, but YES, THIS.
Can't help but feel like this is one of the reasons why the Constitution says If a dude in office does an insurrection, don't let that motherfucker hold office again

Bc clearly they cannot be trusted with power & control over the levers of government, & they do not care about democratic constraints

Yes!!

It's actually really clear that Trump, in his second term, does not view his power as deriving from, and therefore limited by, the Constitution

Looking forward to the next issue of The Onion:

Tren de Aragua Enforcer Looks Up To Trump:

"Pendejo, I break the law twice crossing a street, but even I don't have the criminal cojones of this orange careverga!"
Just woke up even angrier. Impeach, convict, remove. Draft articles now. Either we have a representative government or we don’t. Do not shut up about this until there’s a vote.

So, he's saying that North Korea has inherent authority to execute the plot of Olympus Has Fallen so long as they can find any judge living north of the DMZ willing to give Kim Jong Un an arrest warrant accusing the sitting US president of Korean crimes?
That principled Constitutional Conservative, Senator Mike Lee, experienced approximately 6 hours of Susan Collins-esque concern before remembering that invading other countries and removing their leaders without congressional approval is clearly an Article II power as long as it’s Trump doing it.

Let's all remember that Venezuela has an economy ruled by a single commodity, and thus will always be unstable, with the fate of the people rising and falling on the international wholesale price of that commodity.

Until economic diversification (which Machado will not usher in) this remains true.
it's not about Maduro any more than it was about Saddam, so please do not insult our collective intelligence by saying "he's a bad guy, but" about him. Definitely don't insult anyone by saying this will result in a democratic transition that's good for Venezuela.

Obviously if we want Nolan's Odyssey to be historically accurate, Circe will be an mRNA vaccine researcher.
What about when Circe turns Odysseus’ men into pigs. When are we going to address the accuracy of that? How did she do it?

I encourage folks to read this longer bit of writing on why it would be dangerously helpful to Trump to concede to his framing and title his murder campaign "war."

I really don't want to criticize any of us here using the term "war," to describe Trump's unlawful, unjustified, and premeditated bombing of the beautiful human beings living in Venezuela. But let's...

"Transgender ideology" is the radical idea that other people are not allowed to kill you, fire you, or condemn you to sleep on the streets solely based on their dislike of your appearance.
Gender nonconforming gay guy uses the men's bathroom and it's confronted and threatened.

It was never about the bathrooms, privacy, or safety, they simply don't want queer people to exist.

Translation:

You may dislike how corporate journalism has been corrupted by its access to Power and the compromises it makes to maintain this access. But in the next 24 hours Power will police access even harder & limit access even more.

Aren't you glad some folks sold their souls now?
It’s old-fashioned to defend mainstream journalism these days but some of the most reliable reporting from people actually on the ground will be the AP and Reuters the next 24 hours. Your Substack journalist writing takes will be using frontline reporting from them.

Let's be clear: Yes, the Trump admin is clearly creating war to strip power from the courts who are blocking them.

But NO, the Executive doesn't have the unilateral power to create a war. Only CONGRESS can declare war.

Now is the time for courts to shrug off the pretext and demand formal process.

The presumption of regularity is both being observed and pointedly NOT being taken for granted.

It's like when your mom knocks on your door, opens before you can respond, and says, "You're 14 and you can get yourself ready for bed these days. I just want you to know I'M TRUSTING YOU HERE."
NEW: The judge in the alleged pipe bomber case has ACCEPTED the local grand jury indictment because DOJ has assured the court that 1) they have not tried and failed to get a federal grand jury indictment, 2) they intend to get one soon, and 3) they're not using it as an end-run.

The only radical idea that anyone has ever had is accountability for people with power.

All else is mere reform.
Parker's piece nails why this matters. "Tech companies... would rather not answer for their products’ failures. Every headline that says “Grok apologizes” or “Grok admits” or “Grok says” creates a world where the chatbot takes the fall while Musk and his executives face no scrutiny whatsoever."
I wrote about Grok's CSAM problem and how journalists keep fumbling the story
