The ferocious glee with which MAGA/MAHA embrace the HSAs rather than insisting on cutting off the federal money spigot is because that money ultimately won't go to you. It will go to them.
Every time you see an expensive program the GOP doesn't want to cut, it's ALWAYS bc they're swindling you.

Without government oversight, insurers can rip you off, banks can use your HSA deposits for their own profit, health care providers can rip you off with hidden charges, and even the grocery store can suck away some of the money on "health related expenditures" for supplements that don't work.

They know individual buyers can be canceled individually leaving all the healthy ppl paying monthly premiums for nothing to continue paying monthly premiums for nothing, while the ppl who need health care go bankrupt getting far less than they deserve and requiring far more self-advocacy to get it.

And the answer is simple: the money they stand to gain in swindling you is much more than the money they lose in taxes.
MAGA generally and MAHA specifically is chock full of swindlers, starting at the top.

But none of this explains why MAGA's loudest, wealthiest voices would be for this, when in most situations they're all for cancelling programs and then taking the tax cut.
They cancelled USAID to save money. Why cancel the ACA but continue to spend ACA-levels of money on health care?

So, no, this doesn't "fix healthcare." Ppl don't have the time, much less the expertise, to properly compare plans.
Also, if you buy as an individual, you can be cancelled as an individual. Insurers who kick out the most expensive insured one by one gain profit. Again, it doesn't "fix healthcare."

But of course, while this may come as a surprise to Rick Scott, **human beings have lives**.
We don't actually want to add three weeks of reading about various health plans and banging the 10-key like a 23yo CPA to figure out which plan is most cost effective if a Pap smear comes back abnormal.

From Wonkette we learn that Sen Rick Scott in an interview to Fox (God bless the ppl who watch Fox clips so I don't have to) said this:
"We could fix health care pretty simple. Let’s just say, let people buy what they want to buy. If you’re entitled to a subsidy [...], give it to you in cash ...."

As I was reading Wonkette I was thinking how weird it is that the people who constantly harp about paying taxes for the good of the nation is a bad thing would cheer Trump's plan to axe the ACA and replace it with free cash to deposit in HSAs instead of replacing it with a tax break and no spending.

It's hard to find places in the Pacific NW where you'll get arrested for showing your nipples, but the Lesbian Avengers did do a protest about this a while back and my topless trans chest confused some cops for 20 minutes.
I was glad to have the fronts of women who had previously had my back.

Responsible journalists also wouldn't platform elected liars, but "news" channels are full of elected liars **invited to the studio to lie**.
There is no such thing as a responsible journalistic news channel anymore. And I have no idea which might be our largest responsible newspaper.

When I was young, I started on Hamilton's Mythology, not Bulfinch's and I ended up obsessed with Athena, reading The Odyssey and marvelling at Athena's ability to swap bodies at the drop of a hat, and then I ended up trans as all hell, so IMO Musk is right to be afraid. Mythology regenders you.

To get a letter from her, even an e-mail, was a joy.
I can't encourage more highly, from my own experience and from seeing the girls' experience, writing to authors and teachers you love and who inspire you.

Dr. Clack has since died, but both the girls still remember the bedtime stories of the motorcycle-riding scientist who literally brought fossils to life after museums closed so that she could study their behaviour -- a pattern which often led to museum-damaging hijinks that poor Ahlberg cleaned up.

But over years of stories, they forgot. Then one day there was a YouTube video of Clack talking about her work that I wanted the girls to see and they were stunned that my fictional palaeontologists were real ppl.
They wrote to Dr. Clack, who forwarded their letter to Ahlberg. Both e-mailed back.

As a stepmom I told bedtime stories improvised on the spot. The kids often wanted animals, some of them from extinct species. So I included 2 real palaeontologists Dr. Jenny Clack & Dr. Per Ahlberg (who studied under Clack as a PhD candidate).
