Re-upping for the weekend (and with my book out in two days)
For the @theglobeandmail.com, I wrote about the persistent myths and misconceptions surrounding spousal rape, and a novel legal theory that might reframe the way lawyers and judges (and society) counters them.
Opinion: Spousal rape remains all too misunderstood
More than 40 years after Canada made sexually assaulting one’s spouse a crime, myths remain pervasive within the legal system

I was at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival this past week, and I ran into Mikah Meyer, and it reminded me to re-share this lovely short film about him from last year's fest:

Marisa Tomei supposedly being too old to be hot in The Wrestler.
What’s your all time favorite Hollywood Homely fail? When a woman is meant to be unattractive but she’s gorgeous. Thinking of how Safety Not Guaranteed has a key moment where a man’s ex is in the script old and no longer attractive and she’s a knockout who the movie still plays as old.

Okay, CBC's "incumbent" asterisks are absolutely wilding out on the Yukon election results page. Mayo-Tatchun is showing two separate candidates as both being incumbents! Southern Lakes is showing an incumbent even though it's a new riding!

Unhappy to report that both myself and Porphyry Press were kicked off of both Meta platforms with no warning and no recourse for no reason. So! Hello Bluesky. Join me in Fairbanks on Nov. 19 to launch @rickirobin.bsky.social's new book, GHOSTS OF DISTANT TREES!
I know we all hate M*ta, AND it's still where a lot of stuff happens, including book promotion & sales. Unfortunately, my publisher, Porphyry Press, was just kicked off FB & IG for unknown reasons🤨

So, a reminder: it's a perfect time to order ⬇️ or a local bookstore!

"Canadians are calling it BJ day..." 🫠
The World Series was played outside the U.S. for the first time in 32 years this October, when the Toronto Blue Jays united fans across Canada as the country’s only MLB team. The team even became known as the “Glue Jays” before the Los Angeles Dodgers ended their thrilling postseason run.
Canadians Mourn a Loss by Underdogs Who Brought a Nation Together
The Blue Jays, Canada’s only M.L.B. team, were a salve for a country hit by President Trump’s threats and tariffs. Then the Dodgers ended their thrilling postseason run.
