Funny how this XKCD comic incidentally perfectly described Obama-Trump voters

He’s literally just some guy, that’s the whole point of having a president and not a king. You can tell him to get bent and all he can do is sputter.
I can’t believe people in the room don’t push back. It doesn’t matter if he’s the president, part of holding him accountable is standing up to his bullying— especially if he’s doing it right in front of your face
“You’re a stupid person” — Trump lashes out at a reporter who presses him on the fact that the suspected DC shooter was actually thoroughly vetted before he was let in the US from Afghanistan

This is the scandal. Trump isn’t targeting dangerous people. He’s targeting peaceful immigrants. Almost exclusively.

It's kind of funny because Will stancil is normally a big believer in the idea that ideas not material conditions shape history and like one of the best examples of this is how 1950s elites were convinced cars were The Future™ and completely destroyed American urbanism with negligible public debate
I mean it's not this simple but a handful of policy elites really did drastically reengineer our urban fabric in ways that were popular in the immediate term and created massive social dysfunction beyond that.
Because a lot of leftists/progressives have pseudo conspiratorial models of reality where they think the only reason Americans live in suburbs is bc GM tore up the streetcar lines in LA etc.

This is a good start, but people should also be free to drive on whatever side of the highway feels appropriate to them.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

A president so stupid that one of the great intellectual achievements of his life is “passing” a dementia screening. A president so narcissistic that he can’t stop bragging about passing that dementia screening as evidence of his immense genius.
Trump: AOC is low IQ. If you give her an IQ test, have her pass like the exams that I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed. Those are very hard…

Your views about the world are a reflection of your social environment. In modern times, your social environment is in large part a PARAsocial environment experienced through media. There has been a fundamental shift in the nature of media that has changed almost everyone's parasocial environment.

The largest mass protests by number of participants in US history happened yesterday and the only mention on the front page of the NYT is Jamelle Bouie's opinion column: no diner-diving for sentiments of the unheard masses, no coverage of the Trump video, no sense for what it says about the moment.

This is truly a River City moment. For decades, McCoys Creek was buried in a hidden way, quietly flowing beneath our city. This project marks the next chapter of ongoing work to bring it back to the light where it belongs.
ICYMI: We joined Groundwork Jax earlier this month to reconnect McCoys Creek with the St. Johns River. This project not only will reduce flooding in the Mixon Town area, it will improve water quality, provide recreational access, and create a habitat for fish and wildlife.

This is exactly the point I was making earlier. The left cares more about language and debating the precise meaning rather than actually how we fix our problems
Yes, a lot of people regard “working class” as a description of someone’s deservingness rather than a description of their job, and thus get very exercised about ensuring all their favorite and least favorite groups of people end up in the right category. My contention is that that’s stupid
I think working professionals often don't want to be considered working class as a kind of elitist stance. I think separating working people in this way causes more divisions between people who ought to be working together

This is exactly what Klein is pointing out. The Left prefers to kick him out for a slight disagreement with the orthodoxy of the party rather than actually trying to understand why we are losing.
Ezra Klein’s moral collapse is one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever seen in politics

Liberal democracy and constitutional government rely on people dedicated to following the Constitution and the laws objectively, without ideological or personal favoritism. Authoritarian rule relies on most decisions being at the individual discretion of those in the government.
Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion.

Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.

Here I agree while I understand the economic benefits theoretically of economies of scale. Those firms do not participate in the cultural life of the town or city, from the local fair, strawberry festival, or parades, those are almost exclusively local small businesses
Probably the issue I’ve become most conservative on as I’ve aged is helping business, especially small businesses. By their nature they can be goofy things with goofy owners but holy smokes do they ever make a community much better to live in
