You do not really understand the mental and social universe of the people in the 30th percentile of voting propensity - I guarantee you they don’t know who Dick Cheney even is, much less that his daughter did a campaign stop with Harris - but they’re the ones deciding modern elections.

Yes! He clearly does think this! His understanding of the world is not any more sophisticated than a board game. He has captured the Venezuelan territory a la Risk so now their oil, which is just sitting around, belongs to us. Why didn't anyone else think of this? Well they lack his genius, clearly.

The deep irony of the "everything is driven by material explanations and not ideas and beliefs" socialists is that the spread of socialist ideas through the printing press and radio caused massive social upheaval. Why do these people think that the ideas they don't like cant have drastic effects.
Political behavior is controlled by ideas and beliefs, which people inherit from each other and not from their material position in society. This concept makes many people mad and they overlook that changes in the spread of ideas and beliefs are themselves linked to economic and technological change
People read Stancil as rejecting material explanations for politics, but “new technology and shifts in modes of production put everyone at the mercy of devices designed to make them insane” is a pretty material explanation if you ask me

He used to be a Vox contributor. If you compare with how he used to write it's pretty shocking. This is him in 2017 praising an article about worker solidarity with Somali immigrants praising them as "awesome" and "true Americans"
