Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

Fully half the groups in this "Advanced English" class (which I must take as a graduation requirement despite it being wholly unnecessary for me) are presenting on AI this semester. The professor already lost my respect the first day by saying she used it herself sometimes.

Thank God we’re not unnecessarily jamming this into schools full of millions of vulnerable, emotionally pliable children. *touches ear* Wait, I’m getting an update —

This was one of the nicer things as I got older. Young people feel self-conscious about it. But when you're 45+ and you've had these friends for 20+ years, you get a lot more comfortable telling them you love them.
I think we should normalize telling our friends that we love them more.
there are many different kinds of love other than romantic.

it also feels nice to say it and to hear it ❤️

I found myself starting to doomscroll, but instead of doing that I have decided to stop scrolling and tell you about communal shower traditions in Iceland and why I love them. And no, it‘s not sexual. It‘s because of mental health.

Yes, this will be a 🧵 1/?

Picture in your mind the world you’d love to see the children you know grow up to inherit. I know you can think of all the obstacles in the way of that world. I’m asking you to challenge yourself to think of ways through & around them. Because the absence of progress isn’t proof of impossibility.

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'

'Additionally, certain risk loci overlapped with long covid (BPTF) and ME/CFS (OLFM4, RABGAP1L/GPR52), two poorly characterised disorders, albeit with different lead variants.'

Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint - Medical Republic

53% of Americans believe billionaires are a threat to American democracy.

Meanwhile, just 100 billionaire families spent $2.6 billion on federal elections last year — a 160-fold increase since Citizens United.

The people know: billionaires should not be able to buy our elections.

Open AI loses copyright case in Germany.

Judge Elke Schwager summarized the case saying that if you want to build something and need components, "then you purchase them and do not use the property of others."
Blow for OpenAI in Germany as court rules song lyrics used illegally
A German court ruled on Tuesday that OpenAI violated copyright on nine popular songs in a lawsuit that marked another attempt to prevent the free use of artists' content online. The Munich Regional Co...

Getting annoyed listening to charter school activists lie again and again that charter schools are public schools.

They are not.

They are publicly funded private schools that siphon money away from public schools and produce no better results.

As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

Honestly Dems have no fucking excuse for tolerating transphobia, like none at all, “you creepy fuck, why are you obsessed with the genitalia of minors” is RIGHT FUCKING THERE
When you read these Epstein emails, you start to understand why so many prominent conservatives are obsessed with checking the genitals of children. It's a big thing for them!

PTSD sucks. Panic attacks suck.

It is nonetheless interesting to me that they can be experienced in an almost mechanical sense. That is, sometimes it's not any single specific thing that sets me off, but dump enough stress into my broken processor and it predictably rattles apart just the same.

THIS.

No one's forcing you to marry (or even have) a same-sex partner. No one's forcing you to change your gender. No one's forcing you to buy books or watch movies about LGBTQ people or other minoritized groups.

You can just...live your life? And not worry about what other people do?
The thing about trying to frame LGBTQ discrimination as "religious freedom" is that we have never granted any religion the freedom to harm or control others. That is where freedom stops. You can *believe* all you want that a woman marrying her girlfriend is evil, but belief is for you, not others.

I don't know how to explain my deep sense of foreboding without ending up on some kind of list, because it would certainly use key words that a determined misreading could assign sentiments of malice or incitement, and that is kinda the opposite of what I want to express.

The filibuster is so fundamentally anti-democratic that forcing the authoritarian party to kill it so that they could keep taking health care and food away from Americans was probably the cleanest out from the damn thing, yet this Cones of Duneshire-ass opposition party loves rules more than wins.

To be clear, this deal still needs to go through a debate and amendment process and more 60-vote thresholds to pass the Senate, and then it must pass the House. There's still room for constituent pressure.

Did you know that in Canada, if a budget doesn’t pass the government doesn’t shut down?

Federal workers aren’t furloughed.

Funding for social services doesn’t dry up.

Failure to pass a budget triggers an election.

It puts the politicians jobs on the line.

They get the budget passed.
