Housemate and I are making apple cider from scratch again, and then rendering the pulp into apple butter, which it turns out we will devour in bulk if we have it around.

The past ten minutes have been spent riffing on how much of human life comes down to the singular ability to "make water hot."

hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

Members of Congress: stop posting online and APPEAR, PHYSICALLY on the steps of the Capitol to decry this unconstitutional violation of domestic & international law. SHOW THE PEOPLE the level of danger we are facing as a country.

The aging pedophile who wants to be a king has kidnapped the leader of a sovereign nation without congressional approval.

If the United States had an opposition party, they would treat this as an illegitimate act and start impeachment proceedings immediately.

Thank you so much! It's going to be my new "snuggle up being chronically fatigued" blanket, so it's good that the colors and pattern give me so much joy. 🥰

I have finished the main section of my La Passacaglia project!

It has taken me four years and a day of intermittent sewing to complete it, and I have absolutely no idea how many pieces, stitches, or hours it contains. But it's pretty and the colors make me happy, so it was worth it.

This is a transitional year for me, likely to be filled with lots of stress, upheaval, and heartache.

So I am going to grow a plant.
okay let's do a thread of FUN ONLY, no-stress, low-stakes New Year's Resolutions that are designed not to make you become a Better™️ Person™️ but purely to increase the amount of happiness in your life in 2026

I'm going to learn Polish folk embroidery and I want to DM at least a one-shot of something

My mother called these "serendipity trips" and they are bordering on a hobby in my family.

There is a strong argument to be made for owning paper books precisely BECAUSE you can get lost on the way to what you're looking for. Even a good dictionary can be fun for a quick wander.
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

I haven't been confirmed as receiving it yet. I have no reason to suppose I won't be, but I can't say I have one yet.

I have been studying English literature.

The wheel turns; the summer ends.
The light departs, the cold descends,
And we are left to hold the light
Against the cold and longest night.

The wind that howls around the door,
The tracks of snow upon the floor.
Reach for your loves and hold them tight
Against the cold and longest night.

I have turned in my final assignment and in theory should now be eligible for my degree.

PG&E is having a massive outage in San Francisco. Waymo robots aren't handling the traffic light outages well. Cell service is also out is some places.

No surprise as Waymo robots & cell have repeatedly failed during power outages.

CPUC regulates both Waymo and PG&E (Profit Greed & Explosions).

It is almost 1 am and I really ought to go to bed properly, but you see, there is a cat who has wedged himself against my foot and that means I will be a vile betrayer if I get up.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

I legitimately miss seeing you both. Not doing the con circuit means not getting to spend time in real life connection with a whole lot of people I like, and social media is really not the same as just, you know, getting to have actual conversations.

(There is also the problem that my brain, faced with completion of any major project, immediately starts to rebel against taking the last few steps. It doesn't matter how much I want it to be done, or how otherwise easy the steps may be, the resistance to completion is a force to be reckoned with.)

Today is the last final exam of my final course for this degree.

The prospect of actually being done doesn't feel real, I keep expecting them to spring a last minute hidden requirement on me that will somehow prevent me from graduating.

To accept and use this AI tech is to say I myself am so deeply incompetent and mediocre that a useless machine which cannot actually do the required work is still better than any effort I can make.

Seriously. Just stop.

The university gives the professors the right to decide their own genAI policies, and I am in my final semester. I cannot drop the class, or I will be unable to graduate, and thus unable to get a different visa, and unable to stay in Korea. This class is a non-negotiable requirement for graduation.
December 12, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Fortunately, yesterday was my last class. I hopefully will never have to communicate with this professor again. I will absolutely be filling out the end of semester review with my thoughts, however.

I am ashamed that my university has so deeply compromised their academic integrity around AI.
December 11, 2025 at 3:39 AM
This professor doesn't even understand the issues. She doesn't know how the technology works, she seems unaware of the legal, economic, or systemic challenges to it, and she has made no move to become more informed. This shows a lack of integrity & academic rigor that should frankly be embarrassing.
December 11, 2025 at 3:29 AM
My professor told me yesterday that genAI use was allowed in her class because "AI is here to stay" and it took everything in me not to snap back or refuse to continue the assignment. The most I could do was state that my writing was my copyrighted work and I didn't want it fed to AI.
The same people who tell me AI adoption is inevitable told me metaverse adoption was inevitable and NFT adoption was inevitable and VR adoption was inevitable and web 3 crypto integration was inevitable and every fucking new technology is instantly labelled “inevitable” by the losers hocking it…
