I should not be in this class. My participation is actively in the way of other students unless I work very hard to set limits, but bureaucracy is what it is so my presence and participation are required. I'm trying to at least be as supportive and helpful as I can.

My group is presenting on education reform. I've told my teammates to use me as a resource to fill in anywhere they have gaps, and that if they get me scripts I'll check them for them in advance. But other than being a guide, I am trying to give them room to do the work so they can learn from it.

Each of these presentations will have a 10-15 minute discussion period afterwards. I... Am going to struggle not to dominate those, because I am passionately opposed to genAI and better equipped to argue it than anyone else in that class, none of whom are native speakers. They won't learn if I do.

Picture in your mind the world you’d love to see the children you know grow up to inherit. I know you can think of all the obstacles in the way of that world. I’m asking you to challenge yourself to think of ways through & around them. Because the absence of progress isn’t proof of impossibility.

The storms of my childhood were just weather. There was never anybody to blame for that misfortune.

But we KNOW the faces behind the figurative storm. And trapped people don't always wait for the water to go down and then build a higher bridge. They can be just as furious and deadly as the flood.

Tonight I am feeling that same impending storm sensation, in a figurative sense. There is fury there. It's definitely going to cause some floods. I am far away and thus protected from that danger, but my neighbors are not. And so I worry once more that this time they might drown.

You could drive past on the road, high above their house, and see these churning brown flood waters cutting off their driveway. Their house was raised, it didn't flood every time, but it was genuinely dangerous for them to try to leave. They had to build a second, high footbridge not to be trapped.
