So, no one thought I would have a 50th birthday, but at the end of January, I will. I don't want to be involved in the planning or acquire any expectations, but Matt is trying to put something together, so if you'd like to be involved in some way contact @themattmcd.bsky.social
I get a little silly on Boxing Day. I should just go back to playing Dragon Age.

Horizon: Zero Dawn.
OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?

For me: PC Hodgell's Kencyrath Cycle and there's no close second

By the same token anecdotal evidence shows that men are getting book contracts that assure they will have books put out by a major publisher until the year 2040 at least and are regularly on bestseller lists, yes, it's amazing what anecdotal evidence will show, all you need is a single anecdote
“Anecdotal evidence also suggests that men are being pushed out of the literary world.” Ah, yes, the famously reliable anecdata.

Nerds making up languages: "The -iz ending here signifies the pluperfect *active* subjunctive; -ix would have been pluperfect *passive* subjunctive"

An actual language: "Is, am, was, were, went. Ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen."

Among my daughter's closest friends in recent years have been people named Solar, Sunny, Lux, and Luna, and I'm starting to feel like her author is even more heavy-handed with the "theme" and "motif" stuff than mine is.

Previously, I posted that Na-ion batteries were likely to reach Li-ion battery energy density faster due to the prior advances and experience from Lithium work. Well, that’s appears to be the case. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋 www.uh.edu/news-events/...
Breakthrough New Material Brings Affordable, Sustainable Future Within Grasp

My 13yo got this shirt for Christmas, and it's the most perfect shirt for her I can possibly imagine.

The Ghost of Christmas Future returns the following year.

Again it shows Scrooge his own tombstone. The year on it has not changed. But this time, it is covered in flowers.
