The Texas Supreme Court said in October that judges may decline to perform marriages based on their religious beliefs.

In response, Denise Hernández, a queer Latina judge, threw a Big Gay Wedding Party. With the @19thnews.org, we sent a fabulous photographer.

Lots of people on the right like Rosenfield have adopted this annoying tone policing where every book, article, tweet, etc that is slightly pro-liberal should not be judged based on whether it’s right or wrong but rather whether it’s a consultant-designed way of persuading the marginal voter
these people can fuck off, quite frankly

The thing to understand about Trump II's new proposed ESTA requirements is that once the outside world is seen and framed as a threat and a hardened border the only protection from it, the distinction between friend and enemy becomes meaningless, and there's no such thing as safe passage.

This is the problem with so many dudes shilling for "agentive AI" too. The actual work they are claiming to replace is invisible to them, especially how much it relies on relationships, informal networks, context, and the ability to bridge systems that don't interoperate.
Nothing wrong with having help for childcare, I wish everyone could. Definitely something wrong with being a billionaire snake oil salesman and pretending that the human help you rely on for childcare is actually done by your snake oil

Why would an American private equity firm owned by an American citizen need to waive governance rights to avoid review? 🤔

Essential thread:
1. Paramount's hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery exposes Jared Kushner's game

Kushner is not running a private equity fund. He's running an influence peddling operation.

It's spelled out on page 42 of Paramount's new SEC filing
Kushner and Saudis back hostile takeover of Hollywood giant
Jared Kushner is funneling $24 billion from Middle Eastern governments to back a hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery—all while advising President Trump on foreign policy.

we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

Conservative affirmative action strikes again. As the court tilts more conservative, those with ties to conservative justices are chosen over better attorneys. That's how a politicized judicial system works.
I assume Amit Agarwal was chosen to defend independent agencies at the Supreme Court today because he's a former Alito and Kavanaugh clerk with a conservative pedigree. But he is doing a very poor job, and I think a progressive advocate with subject matter expertise would've been far more effective.

The most important political fault line of our time is over whether children are people or property.
This whole so-called “parents rights” movement the right has taken up and the left is supposed to kowtow to for votes is so obviously anti-child it really bothers me to see it presented as anything other than justification for abusive “parenting” and disregard for actual science on child development

It’s time we talk about what kind of men are attracted to being ICE agents

Hint: It’s men who would strangle a woman

I think “the president’s allies are promising to destroy media institutions the president doesn’t like to curry favor with him” is very bad, actually
New WSJ reporting: "During a December visit to Washington, David Ellison offered assurances to Trump administration officials that if he bought Warner, he'd make sweeping changes to CNN, a common target of President Trump's ire, people familiar with the matter said..."

If the reporting on the Peggie decision tells us anything, it should be that the way news gets reported in this country has little to do with truth, and much more to do with narrative - as well as whose heavily spun press release lands on journos desks first.

These people are ridiculous.

then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Holy shit this back and forth between Kagan/Alito/Jackson/&the SG.

Kagan: Doesn't your logic mean a whole raft of other agencies must be invalidated?
SG: Yes, but that's not being litigated right now
Kagan: So what?
Alito: What if we just want to say "but maybe don't apply our logic elsewhere?"
