Did a little personal internal inventory to see how I'm going to generate the energy and motivation to do the work I need to do this year, and yup, it's going to have to be spite.

Let's go spite.

This explains so much.
People with psychopathic traits and low cognitive ability are over-represented in online political activity.
If someone is being cruel, obnoxious and ridiculous, don't try to reason with them. Chances are you won't get anywhere. Just block.

I get really mad when people advocate vehicular cycling because it is an ableist approach that relies on a baseline amount of speed and skill, which many do not have. Bike lanes — especially protected ones — allow people of all abilities to bike or roll (like wheelchair users).
In the past, I was one of those cyclists who would ride in full traffic and take the lane. I did ride with a hammer on hand in case a car came too close. Now I am 60, and I am no longer able to ride like that. It is only because of bike lanes that I can ride a bike these days. More bike lanes NOW

If you work for an organization that still cares about learning reality things. This is happening next week, and it is totally worth your time.

And, you can also change the narrative yourself, by leading the public. Public pressure absolutely moves politicians. Sitting around waiting for others to take this seriously is failing. Making something the story and making the public care about it is the job of a politician.
IMO the argument is that you can make things into big enough deals that it matters. Khanna found Massey and found survivors and made the Epstein Files the gigantic story it should be. Only then did establishment Dems come along. You can, in fact, make things into big hairy deals if you do it right.
if you want the Senate to do something, Senate Republicans must do something.

People are dunking on this but I'm not really sure what plays Schumer has other than to try to peel off Rs.

I had meningitis in high school and was in a coma for several days. When I came back I had to relearn how to read fucking compound sentences bc my working memory was broken.

Vaccinate your fucking kids.
This is purpura fulminans, a severe complication of meningitis (which as of today is no longer on our universal vaccine schedule)

Micro clots & bleeding into the skin cause skin & tissue death. It’s more common in kids & associated with 20-70% mortality.

Those who survive often lose limbs.

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

I feel like AI should not be given the active voice in news articles. It’s like saying: “In 1993, rakes began to give Jim a lot of help organizing leaves on the lawn.” Center the agency of humans, with anything inanimate (including AI software) as the direct objects.

This is a really lovely practice, and if you're looking for an easy New Year's resolution to make these times a little bit brighter, this one is solid.
One of my old friends (absolutely offline) was going through some scary stuff last year -- and I, helpless, live so far away. And so I asked what I could do to support her best.

"When you see something that makes you think of me, text me."

Shut it the fuck down.
“ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, ‘Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode’”

we will not be able to stop fascism

Yeah, it has long been the case that adult-oriented businesses have to be careful or risk the wrath of everyone from prosecutors to payment-processing companies, but "prominent social media company owned by world's richest person swiftly became world's largest CSAM producer" produces no reaction.
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead
