Hi, I'm Quinn, I run a Textile Makerspace and teach data visualization with textiles at Stanford, in a weird job between the library and non-English literatures. I post a lot of fun textile things via #DHmakes, along with digital humanities text analysis stuff, including the Data-Sitters Club.

The Revolution will not have a Game Master, BBEG, boss fight, or NPCs.

It will have many, many meetings. And a lot of talking about hard & boring & vital things.

It’s all of us, every day, figuring out how to be human in better configurations than we have now.

I have such complicated feelings about this. The assumptions people make about craft work can set me off. But on the other hand, those assumptions make craft disarming and non-threatening, the perfect Trojan Horse to get stressed, anxious people to try and fail at new things. #DHmakes
I was running a craft workshop at the museum tonight and a woman looked at my name tag and laughed, saying: "I bet when you were getting your PhD your mom didn't think you'd end up helping people cut out pieces of paper."

Too many layers to unpack.

Dear USians: I suspect many of us are grieving right now, whether for the death of our government, or of our institutions, or of our old lives in the before times. We should acknowledge it.
Your brain is very busy when you’re grieving. Part of it knows someone important is gone while another part keeps searching for them.

Recharge. Stay hydrated. Eat a healthy snack. Breathe. Embrace moments of joy wherever you can find them.

Prolonged stress can have long term health consequences. Self care is not selfish - it’s empowering.

Vintage weaving references!

Makes me want to dream up a #DHmakes collaboration with book arts folks... 🤔

Shimachō are sample books used as design references for weaving striped textiles.

They were carefully preserved because they served as valuable resources for weavers.

#DHmakes loves the soft power of iconic fleece. 😍
Tonight I watched Prime Minister Mark Carney take the actual Heated Rivalry Canada fleece from Hudson Williams, slip it on and say: “This is true soft power.”
