It speaks to defining Americanness as “white” regardless of country of origin… for now.
It's interesting to watch, say, a grandson of Russian Jews or a first generation South African immigrant doing the "America for Americans" nativist gimmick as though they're on the team and they won't get defined out of it when their movement mutates to become even more racist

We lost a real one in Howie. I didn’t know him as well as others. I learned of him through the blogosphere in the Bush years and his impact was already monumental by that point. He was no bullshit and always supportive of my antics clowning Republicans. I’ll always be grateful. Rest in peace.
My good friend Howie Klein passed away today and I am bereft. He was a fierce progressive, music impressario, creative organizer, passionate world traveller and the mensch of all mensches.
Howie always fought the good fight and inspired many to do the same. I will miss him terribly.

I went through this as a fan of the *Oakland* A's and *Oakland* Raiders. Sports franchises are often billed to the community as "community assets" but very quickly turn into "businesses" when they strong arm communities into handing them public money to make a private profit.

I have spent years wishing Democrats would use the rhetorical devices employed by FDR, both on the economy and as it relates to freedom. As a candidate myself now, I am hoping to bring some of it back. Take, for instance, this audio from a fireside chat in February 1942.

He's an absolute child who is just pissing away billions of dollars after he zeroed out foreign aid, cut cancer research, and ripped health care away from 12 million people.

The lack of subtlety and finesse, at least within the administration, seems to be on purpose. They think it makes them look strong. I would argue it is intentional provocation to justify punitive actions they want to take anyway.
i know one view is that "they don't intend to lose power" but i honestly think this gives them way too much credit.

I find it hard to believe the person who green lit the "uh these skeleton Palestinian children had *other* ailments" story felt the heavily reported story on a concentration camp the administration itself promoted with selfies and influencers just need more buttoning-up.
