If so, this is the first known photograph of a living member of this species! The last known documentation was a preserved specimen from roughly 150 years ago.

I know we all have a lot of other things to worry about right now but this is your PSA to get the latest covid booster & flu shot if you haven't already. It takes a couple weeks to build immunity and holidays will be here soon. (Stickers from my shop! shop.breelundberg.com/product/get-...)

STAY. AWAY. FROM. WILDLIFE. Keep your trash locked up. Do not feed wildlife or otherwise encourage it to hang around human habitation.
Apparently missing out on some exciting rabid fox neighborhood drama

Sorry to stop by with some joy, I'm pretty anxious myself too, but luckily I found the ducks I was looking for. Backlit which can be better for editing later on. Just some quick edits. 🪶

Cornell also has an app called “Merlin” that lets you identify birds by listening to their songs and comparing the audio to a database of birdcalls. That’s how I got to find out that I was hearing bluejays and woodpeckers all the time despite being terrible at spotting them in the trees.

For anybody who wants help with this, I really recommend downloading the iNaturalist app onto your phone. You can identify local plant, fungus, & animal species by taking pictures of them.

The same org also has a second app with a more simplified UI called “SEEK,” which I use to ID wildflowers.

please learn about your local ecosystems. please. its so sad and strange to me how many people live in a place and learn nothing about the land that surrounds them and the ways in which that land has grown and changed and flourished for hundreds of years before your town even existed

Already run into kids who, when seeing my wildlife photos, exclaim 'that's AI'
I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

It's a beautiful day here in Pennsylvania. Here a Great Blue Heron shakes things out during golden hour. Despite their large size, Great Blue Herons only weight about 5 to 6 lbs, thanks to hollow bones.

The world would be immensely better if more religions and their believers had even a tenth of the dedication the Sikhs do to doing good for people with no gatekeeping or expectations of anything other than "you are a fellow human in need and we can help you"
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.

Even 2,500 years ago, people loved a novelty cup! 🦞 🍷 😄

It’s suggested this Ancient Greek terracotta vessel in the shape of a lobster claw was used as a drinking horn at parties!

Happy Saturday everyone! I have a jewelry shop at nora.jewelry!

I'm also drawing fruit/veg for people who donate $50 to @wingsndnsilver.bsky.social for SNAP replacement grocery gift cards; I'll do up to 20 of those this weekend. See thread for details and quotes of this post for availability.

I've been working on a Spotted Eagle Ray pattern. Their shape is surprisingly hard to get right.

I have two listed on my website, they are made of super soft minky and are weighted with plastic beans.
