Hello to everyone who recently followed along! (and also to those who've been here a while) I'm Steve and I'm a hobbyist wildlife photographer in eastern Canada. I post a new wildlife photo every day. I hope you enjoy the photos, and don't be shy to engage if you see something you like!
For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Pigeons&Doves we have this stunner sunning on a beach on a cold March morning. #MourningDove

The #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #BackyardBirds. How am I expected to choose only one? They're all so adorable! Here's a Chipping Sparrow to prove the point, taken in my back yard near Fredericton, New Brunswick, in eastern Canada.

I missed the excitement of this Northern Harrier pouncing onto its prey (I was driving) but here it is afterward! #TalonTuesday

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Reflections (any bird reflection), per @robcrank68.bsky.social's official decree. Here's a Mallard drake about to touch down in the mirror-like water.

I try to stay mostly apolitical on this account, and really this isn't a political statement as much as a reflection of what reviewers are saying. In any event, it made me actually laugh out loud. (@deadder.bsky.social is la crème de la crème of editorial cartoonists, IMHO.)

It's always exciting when I hit both #BirdOfTheDay themes with one photo! Main theme today is #openbeak (birds with beak open) and the alt is #openwings (birds with wings out). This Herring Gull has it all open to show its displeasure with a nearby crow that was harassing it.

It was quite a thrill to spend some time with this White-tailed Deer fawn as it and its mom played hide and seek with me in the underbrush. #adorable

One of the two beautiful White-breasted Nuthatches that have been visiting our feeder lately, for the first time in all the years we've lived here.

Today we're going with the alt #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Blue (any bird with blue in its plumage). They don't come much bluer than these guys. #BlueJay

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #EyeContact (when the eye steals the frame). I love how the speckling in this Herring Gull's eye looks a lot like its eggs.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BrownIsBeautiful (celebrating subtle brown tones in birds). I've always admired the less-flashy-than-the-male but no less beautiful brown mottled plumage of the female Mallard duck.

If you're a photographer or similarly minded person and you haven't discovered Andy Hutchinson on youtube (also here on BS @andyhutchinson.com.au but not very active), do yourself a favour and look him up. Mince words, Andy does not. For example, a recent comment on the current state of Instagram:

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is #swans. There are no wild swans around here, but in 2018 a wayward pair of Mute Swans got turned around and found themselves in southern New Brunswick for a few days. Caused a very big fuss with local birders. I found them on a beautiful spring morning.
