The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

This is like saying, ‘We should get rid of unions so YOU can negotiate your OWN salary with your boss!’

(We should absolutely not get rid of unions & you should absolutely not have to negotiate your own salary solo…)
Negotiating your own health insurance sounds like being stuck in hell which isn't that far off from what we have now
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Not one but TWO shitty breakdown things happened yesterday (both of which might be minor fixes, but also may potentially cost a bunch of money). And since we know bad things come in threes, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

So if you could send me good vibes I'd appreciate it.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

Not to mention, open enrollment has ALREADY STARTED. The subsidies expiring has ALREADY done damage to the marketplace that will be difficult to reverse. Even if they got a YES in December, the ACA would be screwed just from WAITING THAT LONG
Senate Democrats asked for a year of ACA subsidies and were told to fuck off.

So they came back and asked for a pinky promise to hold a vote on ACA subsidies that they will assuredly lose?

Seriously?
From what I have seen so far this does not seem like a good deal:

Dear NZ: fight civil asset forfeiture with everything you have in you. Love, the US
A concorning snippet, here:

"That campaign will receive $5.9 million from the Proceeds of Crime Fund - money taken from criminals - and the Government wants to make it faster for police use the proceeds of crime laws to seize assets from drug dealers."

Peacock ore Bornite is very pretty but only gets art/physics points as a source of copper & I’d rather vote for copper itself.

So I am going to vote Molybdenite for physics reasons (source of Re for geochronology, Mo used as a catalyst, battery electrodes, alloys of iron & semiconductors). #OreCup

Support fair wages and benefits.
Support universal basic income.

mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)

That air traffic controllers have been sucked into politics so dramatically this year - publicly accused of DEI hiring after the DC midair and now as a prominent part of the shutdown - shows how politics has infiltrated & corrupted flight safety issues.

It shouldn’t be this way.
