when my house was broken into, the thief stole a backpack with a checkbook in it. before we could close the account, they set up our checking account as a payment method on Amazon. we literally had an address and name where packages were being sent. the cops were like, “you could go talk to them”
a very funny eye opening experience many people have had about how the cops actually operate is this "hey i have a tracking beacon on this stolen item that shows exactly where it is can you arrest the guy who stole it?" and the cops go like "lol no that sounds like a lot of work"
I spoke w/ a woman whose home was burgled after she evacuated. There's an Apple AirTag in one of the stolen bags, but police told her that due to the fires, they don't have resources to track it down. It's a whole new challenge for police (w/ @liborjany): www.latimes.com/california/s...
