I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

This is the fourth offseason I've written about the Giants' total Baseball Operations budget for @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social to get a sense of how much they *might* spend on payroll and all signs point to them needing to raise that budget this winter.

I see a lot of people presuming incompetence for the Democrats when malice clearly explains their behavior. I get that nobody wants to believe "our government is against us," but, our government is against us. That's right, even your favorite member of it!

I got back to my office after the vote last night and recorded this. There's no way to sugarcoat what happened. And my fear is that Trump gets stronger, not weaker, because of this acquiescence. I'm angry - like you. But I choose to keep fighting.

According to Bob Nightengale, the Mets lost $350 million last year, but they will still acquire one or two front-line starters this offseason.

And, echoing what Pat Ragazzo wrote Saturday, Pete Alonso is a goner unless he signs a "deal they can't turn down."

Of course, this could all get mooted depending upon what happens in the House with regard to ending the shutdown. But at least for now, the ball is back at the Supreme Court.

I'll have more on this in Monday's regular issue of "One First," which should drop around 7:15 a.m. ET.

#SCOTUS now has 48 hours (so, through 11:54 p.m. on Tuesday) to either grant the same relief or extend the "administrative stay" entered by Justice Jackson on Friday night.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

There's still those outstanding cases with SNAP. I get that the GOP held it hostage to add pressure to the Dems to cave (even though it seems like a few donors being inconvenienced is the only thing that moved the needle), but isn't it setup that the CR funds it formally and Trump simply impounds $?
