This is JUST like how the media covers police shootings.

“Man struck by bullet during police stop.”

“Teen girl upends politician’s career by having sex.”

Same refusal to clearly call out the powerful when they do something wrong.

Someone posted this as satire, but it’s basically this headline.

Yes, your honor, we received and sold stolen goods, but if there was no market for such we wouldn't have done so. Our customers are to blame.

We live in a golden age of shamelessness and grift.
"Sure, our plagiarism machine ingests enormous amounts of copyrighted material without anyone's permission, but it's the users of the machine who are the 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 criminals, your honor." 🙄🙄

Just unbelievable levels of chutzpah.

NYT journalists: how dare you accuse me of belonging to an organization that systematically demeans women and victims of sexual trafficking

NYT today: this greedy kid wanted money for braces and so ended up becoming sexually trafficked. The real victim? Matt Gaetz

Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

You can disagree and argue as much as you like but the point of evaluating something scientifically is that not every statement should be given equal credence because evidence matters
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

This specifically is a huge pet peeve of mine, of the "everyone is stupid except me" variety.

Agile is over 20 years old. Some companies are in double-digit years of their Agile transformation. If it were as simple as "read the manifesto and then Do That" someone would've already made it work.
Can confirm. Was at a company that hired McKinsey to help us "do agile better". We paid a million dollars for a 101 level powerpoint presentation from a guy that had clearly never done real work before.
This, by the way, is how management consulting works. The top insight from McKinsey types in Forbes thinkpieces is "spend a few hours googling the problem space" - and this allows them to present themselves as experts in front of execs who haven't even bothered to do that much.

I think the main difference here is that, say, Alexander Graham Bell was a rationalist who sought to explain spiritualist phenomena, while OpenAI and the like engage with and sponsor this process of mystification as part of their whole myth making around AGI for profit
it's no coincidence that marginalized people are drawn into movements like this; the 19th century spiritualists were conspicuously female. mystification is a process of obtaining agency, and that complicates any simple dismissal of AI spiritualism as ignorance

Donate to people who don't fuck you over, not to the DSCC.
I'm going to actively say at this point that I don't think people should donate to any Dem-run PACs. What guarantee do we have that they won't give the money to cowards to stave off primary challengers?

I mean, it rather feels like the reverse will happen.

They’re wearing masks so they can’t be prosecuted later. As long as they think they can’t be prosecuted, their crimes will intensify. They will torture, starve and kill, as they have already, on greater and greater scale.

Signed, someone who’s covered the unaccountable War on Terror for 23 years.
I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
Video on social media shows an immigration agent pulling a gun in Little Village and holding it to the side — which is not an appropriate or safe way to hold a gun. (Among other issues.)
