This message could/should be extended to a wide range of academic fields and areas of study. My field, communication, has too often dismissed media ownership concentration as a serious concern.
Political scientists should pay attention to concentration of media ownership as a key challenge for democracy.
Excellent piece by @sulliview.bsky.social in @theguardian.com. Grateful that she references our recent @rooseveltinstitute.org report on the media crises facing US democracy. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
It’s impossible to overstate what a big deal this is for this legendary Kentucky brand. The last time Jim Beam closed down like this was during Prohibition. Trump’s tariffs & fight with Canada are surely to blame.

Sen. Ron Wyden on the Trump DOJ not producing all of the Epstein files, as required by law:

"Anything short of a full release today is a violation of the law and a continuation of this administration’s coverup on behalf of a bunch of pedophiles and sex traffickers."

NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.

Even some of Donald Trump’s most devoted followers have recoiled at his suggestion that Rob Reiner was killed because of his “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
MAGA Turns on Trump Over Unhinged Rob Reiner Post
The president managed to make even a grisly murder about himself.

Donald Trump maliciously mocks the brutal murder of Michele & Rob Reiner, and Republicans don’t bat an eye. But as soon as you quote Charlie Kirk’s views, all hell breaks loose.
As the film world and people of good taste around the world mourn the sudden death of legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer, President Donald Trump jumped to make the apparent double homicide about himself.

Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."
One of my favorite things to do in class is ask my students to rank our screened materials at the end of the semester. The results are not often surprising, but they're still interesting/instructive.
