Bozell's son is the pro-Apartheid nominee to be ambassador to South Africa & his grandson defaced the Capitol on January 6th in case anyone wants to think that what's happening in the Republican Party now is novel or a recent development
In 1961, the National Review, that bastion of "reasonable conservatism" published a pamphlet by L. Brent Bozell (WFBuckley's bro-in-law) making the menacing argument that Chief Justice Earl Warren deserved a punishment greater than censure or impeachment because he'd "made war against public order."

NEW: Jan Crawford's attack on SCOTUS "corruption" narrative was its own substance-free narrative.

On Face the Nation, CBS News's chief legal correspondent went after Supreme Court critics as "dangerous." And yet, her court defense was completely lacking in specifics.

Trump guys on Twitter are using Grok to “hunt” daycares in their nearest city to see if there are kids in them and, if there are, if they’re Somali.
This is so fucking dangerous.

This, combined with "vice signaling" (taking pride in antisocial behavior) has given us the reign of the Stupid Asshole, something most people are against, but can only be remedied if we're not too polite to talk about it
An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

One of my more controversial opinions is that the US needs to significantly raise taxes to the tune of a couple % of GDP right now, even before any expansive social democratic reforms, and that means you—yes you, dear highly educated professional—will need to pay up, not just nebulous billionaires.

shit like this is the core of the damage the social internet has done to us

we have replaced actual expertise with "some dude with a podcast who makes you feel like his buddy while he bullshits into a microphone" and now a ton of people think that measles and chicken pox are the same
Yeah, this dum dum is talking about chicken pox.

Anyway, it's very cool and awesome that he has so much cultural and political influence.

I had a very productive day chipping and clearing all the thawed out snowbanks and ice sheets off my sidewalks and alleyway before this nonsense, Dad Meter is at 💯 before the shoveling begins
Here are the snow totals and timing for the Twin Cities Sunday

Starts: 9-10 AM Sunday
Ends: 12-3 AM Monday

When to shovel: Sunday evening AND Monday morning. Wind will blow snow around all Sunday night.

Type of snow: Starts wet, quickly changes to fluffy.

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.
