If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

This is my regular reminded that if your clothes are full of tear gas and/or pepper spray, air them for a day if at all possible and then wash them twice ON COLD.

If you come home and throw them in on hot right away you will kinda gas your laundry room. <3

Anyway, it's 2 degrees out, with a windchill putting it at -15. I didn't wear my gloves from the car to my door - a single city block - and my hands were already turning red. Our unhoused neighbors will die out there tonight. The MN Indian Women's Resource Center needs funds to keep the heat on.
Our community is in peril. Our neighbors need our help in this time of ICE presence and subzero temperatures.

Mpls has a shortage of available shelter for residents, and our city govt has not developed adequate resources to humanely house people.

Please support MIWRC in this time of emergency.

You go to the local park for an Art Sled rally. The turnout is robust even though it’s 11 degrees and protests are occurring in multiple places around the city. Over half of the sleds have an anti-ICE theme.

We’re going to the Art Sled event in Powderhorn Park.

It will be:
weird
funny
COLD
participatory
crowded
beautiful
innovative
celebratory

Like so much of art and life in Minnesota.

And that’s how we will outlast these times and thrive.

You guys wanna help another way?

If you're feeling unable to do any direct action, please make sure your neighbors who are out patrolling have less shoveling to do. Please consider doing some laundry for your friends or running some take out over there, or having them over to your place.
This is Minneapolis:

I am SO behind on *every* basic life chore: grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, errands.

Today I'm doing laundry for a neighbor family, who has been too afraid to leave to go to the laundromat for 6 weeks.

Maybe after that I will have energy to do my own family's laundry.

All of us need to pitch in.

Can you bring over coffee and shoot the shit with your buddy?

Can you help clean their house a little? Run a load of groceries over?

Can you listen to your friend? Have a movie night? Make some tea?

This is heavy work and we need each other.

If you see an abduction keep your wits about you and focus on:
-recording it
-getting a name

The first one I saw I went into a red rage and started screaming “GO HOME.” The second I was better but I didn’t get to the key question fast enough (I had less than 20 seconds).

Next time I’ll do better
Even just a name can put in motion efforts that get someone released. If they're a citizen, we can get them jail support. If they're an immigrant, there are groups working overtime to file habeas petitions before they're whisked out of state. But it starts with a name.
If you see one, the most important thing to say is “WHAT’S YOUR NAME” because otherwise the person is gone for good, maybe. I witnessed one in an alley as the sole pursuit car, I was the only witness, I froze for a second and didn’t shout it in time, and the guy is just… gone now. I’ll never know.

At one point today, there were 283 Minnesota attorneys doing a training on how to file emergency habeas petitions to keep our neighbors from being shipped out of state and held indefinitely.

That would be the second largest law firm in the state. And that training was just put together this week.

I'm gonna say this with all the kindness in my heart: you aren't going to survive if you don't let your life have room for other things.

This is not a short term fight where we can just go 24/7 and then it will be over. We've got YEARS ahead of us. Take a break. Hydrate. Go bake something. Breathe.
