People are going to inevitably focus on the headline, but the Reformer story correctly focuses on the reality of what this terror campaign against an American city and its residents has actually consisted of.

Yeah, the economic damage is done to individuals and businesses. We still have to worry about people who got behind on their rent, legal work that is still needed for people who were detained or subject to bogus charges, etc.

(sigh) I think I know what I have to do here.
I HATED Ill Communication.

Paul’s Boutique made me a fan.

Yes, I’ve been waiting for this announcement but I don’t think anyone’s popping champagne.

One, I’m dubious that it really will end.

Two, the damage done here will still be with us.
Tom Homan said ICE will "conclude" occupation of Minneapolis after a brutal takeover in which federal agents killed two people

Blocked someone for replying to me that Beastie Boys were overrated. Mostly blocked for being rude enough to reply that way to my BB positive post. But also for having that opinion at all. We need to collectively isolate and shun anyone who thinks that way.

is the balloon okay
According to multiple NYT sources, it wasn’t even military personnel at Fort Bliss that fired an anti-drone laser at alleged cartel drones. It was CBP who used the weapon on loan from DoD against a child’s party balloon they mistook for a drone. The Pentagon gave CBP an anti-aircraft weapon.

I was a college radio dj when Paul’s Boutique came out. Without listening to any of it, I put “5-Piece Chicken Dinner” on. I thought it was terrible. So I didn’t listen to or play the rest of it.

So I didn’t hear THAT MASTERPIECE for a very long time.

Never said I was a *good* dj, mind you.

I’ve never been that comfortable with the idea of patriotism but I’m pretty comfortable with being Minnesota patriotic. This really is who we are. Come out and have a sloppy! We got the auger.
I need you all to watch this. If this isn’t the most Minnesota ass thing on the planet i don’t know what is

I wrote about the ICE incident in Saint Paul on Facebook, made it public, it got traction, the trolls and bots emerged, and I was legit surprised how many out state Minnesotans use a motorcycle as their profile picture.

Or, I guess, how many motorcycles are hostile right wingers.

People use “The Metro” to mean the two cities and suburbs but I always worry someone will think I’m making a Berlin reference.

It's sometimes best to just say "Minnesota" when talking about the horrors because the horrors are happening all over Minnesota. (If it appears something happened in a city here & you want to get specific but aren't sure if it is Minneapolis or Saint Paul, "Twin Cities" is an option . . . )
Note to non-Minnesotans: St. Paul is not Minneapolis

I'm doing some writing and learned that those are crocodiles in the game Pitfall, not alligators.

I'm writing about online dating and mental health.

Please don't think anything is back to normal in Minnesota. Nothing is normal.

I know we’re strong. Don’t know if it’s enough.

If you don't live here, your Minnesota friends may tell you that it's going to be okay but I think a lot of that is them being nice so you won't worry.

It's bad here.

Please watch the whole video from our Saint Paul Olympian. It’s one of the most direct and eloquent statements about the situation that I’ve heard from anyone.
Proud to be a Minnesotan, proud to be represented by Rich Ruohonen.
US Olympic Curling Team member speaks out against ICE:

"I'm proud to represent Team USA. But we'd be remiss if we didn't mention what's going on in Minnesota and what a tough time it's been. What's happening is wrong. There's no shades of gray."

Redundant. You either have a memory, or you’re reminded of something. You’re not reminded of a memory. Heavy metal fans won’t stand for such writing, my friend.

I have a friend who's middle school aged child told them they don't want to live in Minnesota when they grow up because of the stress and trauma they've dealt with. Between MPD murder of George Floyd, pandemic, and now this, it takes a toll on kids even when they AREN'T the ones targeted

Things will be more peaceful if/when this surge ends and these people leave. And I hate to be gloomy but I do believe in being realistic about trauma, impact, and big picture. The truth is this period will be with us for a long time to come. New chapter, same story.

A reminder that there are many good dogs in need of foster homes in the Twin Cities. And some have bow ties.

It’s free, it’s fun, and there are a lot more dogs in need right now because of families fleeing or being taken.

Two mail carriers at the next table in this coffee shop and they are in LOVE. Holding hands, leaning in, contented smiles, basking in each other. Both in their mail carrier uniforms.
It's so nice!

Sally and Maisy are best friends. On very rare occasions, they argue. Over a treat or something. Lots of barking, wrestling, no biting. Lasts maybe five seconds.

Afterwards, they lick each other’s noses and then go on like nothing ever happened.

Pretty highly evolved behavior, I think.
