I have begun what I intend to be a COMPREHENSIVE guide to every location-appropriate bike rack in Minneapolis.

Thank you to everyone who helped me find these. If you know of others, let me know~

Location-Appropriate Bike Racks of Minneapolis
Here is a running list of every bike rack in Minneapolis with a location-appropriate shape:

The old Perkins in Cedar Riverside for 1) being really loud, 2) sitting on the back of the booth, and 3) extremely drunkenly calling two guys in uniform who came over to tell me to shut up or leave "rent-a-cops" when they were, in point of fact, not of the rent-a variety
Yall ever been kicked out of a bar or club? Like are you banned from anywhere. 😂

One idly wonders whether the county was waiting to see, when deciding whether to proceed with the existing street design or rework it, whether the composition of the city council might change
YOUR advocacy is working! "..., we have heard feedback regarding how we can: better separate people walking, rolling and biking; provide a transit advantage; and preserve parking and trees."

Going over the top at Verdun to get a spot at this feast
They served a celebratory supper of hogweed and dandelion salad dressed with crowfoot and garlic mustard and baked loaves of onion bread, with a dessert of almond cake with candied lilac buds, made from fresh ingredients which the Dibbuns had gathered from the orchard.

New post from @zyudhishthu.bsky.social

Broad themes:
1. Families live in downtown Chicago!

2. Households with children continue to move to, or households without children start their families in, downtown Chicago

3. The number of children in downtown Chicago has grown a lot
Chicago's downtown family boom
And what it can tell us about building family-friendly cities

Under-appreciated aspect of the new 1st Ave rebuild in Whittier (which is almost done!): really great lighting

neighbor (about 1st Ave): The new street…I mean it looks good, but like, never in my life have I thought “you know what we need? narrower streets and wider sidewalks.” I thought streets were for cars, but what do I know.

me: I think streets are for… people?

neighbor: [looks at me like I’m insane]

Whoever in Her World thought to wait until after the DFL nominating convention window (Minneapolis' was in July, Her announced in August) so that there'd be no St. Paul DFL nomination for mayor since nobody was really challenging Carter... I bestow upon you one Political Bastard Respect Token.
St. Paul voters on Tuesday handed a historic election victory to state Rep. Kaohly Her, who will be the first woman and first Hmong person to serve as mayor.

Her upset her former boss, two-term Mayor Melvin Carter, to win the election.

I think the main importance of Mamdani is proof that the national, pro-corporate Democratic powers (represented here by Schumer, Jeffries, and the Clintons) can be overcome by populist electoral campaigning. It's been a dream since 2016—really since OWS—and finally there is a big, hard win.
there is a decent 'mamdani is a fluke' argument but it requires people to say 'what the fuck were dems doing getting behind cuomo' and such people aren't willing to do that

Agreed: the future is wide open for @katiecashman.bsky.social
Also - fun in a rueful way - stat: in 2021, when Lisa Bender’s Mpls Council gave way to Frey-friendliness for two years, FIVE incumbents lost. This year, only one did. (Katie Cashman you are destined for better things …)

This year’s Ward 10 was maybe the most Yard Signs Don’t Vote election I’ve ever seen
Does money win elections? Not in Ward 10. Chughtai won at a cost of $9.75 per vote.

Meanwhile Millard spent just over $42 per vote to lose heartily. (That’s looking like more per vote than Cuomo, who’s probably under $40!)
