In my opinion both the Confederacy and the Nazis worked on the assumption that if they just grabbed enough land fast enough there wouldn't be the will by their enemies to grab it back, and they planned their tactics and strategies on those suppositions. In both cases, not a great assumption.
In school I was taught the Confederacy were better militarily and just lost because they had less manpower. Likewise I was taught the Germans were the most amazing fighting force ever and only lost because the spiritual descendants of the Confederacy came riding to the rescue.

In honor of this momentous day:
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 is exponentially better than the first film, which remains lovable junk at best.

Franchise peaked with 4.

JASON LIVES would be considered a classic horror-comedy if it wasn't burdened by franchise around it.

Remake/reboot is underrated.

For my money, the way thousands of regular people are self-organizing to resist data centers is one of the most cautiously hopeful stories going right now.

Canton’s makeshift town hall in a tiny trailer was bursting at the seams Wednesday night with citizens united against data centers and cryptocurrency mining.

It's just tough when you put together a voting bloc of Faithfuls to control the game and then like half of them are actually Traitors because you guessed wrong.
Rob is the obvious breakout from TRAITORS this season, but I've also developed a real fondness for Johnny Weir. His unwavering love/support for Tara is a very sweet rejoinder to what can be a nasty game, and he's played an aggressive game that COULD have worked if only he'd landed on better allies.

You play the players, not the game.
nobody posted the clip anywhere so i went and dug the whole episode up

There are some Star Trek fans weirdly obsessed with “decorum” and they really fixate on how Holly Hunter sits in the captain’s chair on STARFLEET ACADEMY. One guy left a comment on the official FB whining about it and so Captain Janeway herself responded to drop the hammer

This is the way. When they come at us, we come back at them twofold. Raise that Pride flag every time they take it down. If they prevent that, surround the park with Pride flags. Ruin their petty little lives until they shit rainbows. Never stop. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/12/n...

You know a task is a winner when the entire cast groans when they realize what video is about to play.
TASKMASTER NEW ZEALAND is a very good iteration of the show but I've never kindled to Tan McHandsomeMan or whatever his name is who plays the Taskmaster.

This is your regular reminder that in the year 2000, Paul Rudd, with frosted tips, appeared in the Hong Kong film GEN-Y COPS as a bad guy (kinda). In the movie, he does martial arts, fights a robot, and, most shocking of all, does an entire scene in Cantonese.

I find it bleak how many people seem to have given up on having any kind of intellectual life. Depression is rampant because we’ve abandoned books & hobbies in favor of joyless amusements. The single most attractive thing a person can do is read often & delight in learning.

Loved THE ORPHANAGE (2007).

THE INNOCENTS and a sprinkling of Peter Pan meets Spanish Gothic horror. Where it's light on scares, it has in compelling human drama and suitably bittersweet ending. Can see why Del Toro threw his weight behind this.

Beautiful film.
