"What do you expect me to do, grieve? He's not here anymore." One of the coldest things Michael Mann ever wrote in a career that's wall to wall ice cold declarations.
BLACKHAT is not a perfect movie, but Mann's conception of the new face of evil being a dead-eyed slob playing at godhood, reducing all human life to data points while being utterly disconnected from their own actions by virtue of their tech was...on point.
Getting reacquainted with a black hat hacker named Hathaway.

There are actors who can make Michael Mann's dialogue absolutely sing, but in 2015, Hemsworth was just not up to the task of delivering lines like, "I traded academia for gladiator academy" in any kind of believable way.

I'm not contrarian enough to argue that BLACKHAT is a 'better' movie than SOCIAL NETWORK, I also just don't actually believe that, but I do think Mann had a better understanding of men like Zuckerberg than Sorkin trying to fashion that chinless waste into a lovelorn, tragic antihero.

What absolutely floors me is that normies like me know this and have known this for a while, and yet, the people who are ostensibly in fields that are coming to rely on this faulty tech somehow don't.

The Virginia Supreme Court has ruled that the state can put a redistricting plan on the ballot this spring that could add as many as four more Democratic seats in Congress.
The referendum will take place on April 21.

CRIME 101: Robust thriller with top-tier craft and a buncha no bullshit Movie Stars sinking their teeth into some prime material. A shade too long, but the slow burn has real sizzle.

I don’t know what it is about this movie but it’s just in one ear and out the other. And I famously have a very high tolerance for Guy Ritchie’s nonsense, especially when Statham is in the mix.
Felt like watching something light, so tossed on OPERATION FORTUNE, a Guy Ritchie joint that I bounced off of on first viewing (despite it being a spiritual continuation of his basically-perfect MAN FROM UNCLE).

Today I learned that Brian Dennehy was originally supposed to play Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter, but Dennehy himself told Michael Mann "you need to talk to this guy Brian Cox."

People really need to understand that the primary process is where you cement power. When standard Republicans started to get primaried for Tea Party fuckos, things went downhill fast.
We have the chance this year to not only take back the House (or if we're dreaming, even the Senate), but to primary the hell of a lot of D losers and shift the party significantly to the left. We have the chance to lean on ALL of our reps to actually do something.

Most of the way through DUNE MESSIAH and I have to assume that Denis and team are throwing the entire book out and instead building an entirely new story while trying to hit the major plot points and ideas. This book is a combo of totally insular prose and outright antagonism to the audience.

A lot of bad shit in recent history could’ve been avoided if antagonistic right wing trolls were rewarded with a knuckle sandwich rather than media attention and polite debate.
over on x the everything app some Chicago high school kid named Danny Spud tried to disrupt his school's anti-ICE protest by yelling about how much he loves ICE and then filmed himself getting walloped by a fellow student lmao
the quote tweet making fun of him has 3x the likes
