The most British thing I’ve ever experienced was in my line management days, when as a white, cultural non-practicing Anglican, I’d be bullied annually by my 2 members of staff (one practicing Hindu, one practicing Sikh) into allowing them to put up the office Christmas decorations in mid-November.
Couldn't the cultural conservatives try something more uplifting like "efforts to cancel Christmas collapse in failure as primary schools across the country hold nativity events"

Even children+parents from all ethnic backgrounds foil those dastardly woke cancellers with Mary, Joseph & the wise men

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

“It’s always worth asking who benefitted from that story being briefed to the media. In this case, it’s probably of help to both Reeves and Khan.”

I can imagine them discussing what press they wanted from the meeting and agreeing that Khan was going to “storm out”.

it is an underrated miracle of the 21st century that we really did massively, massively reduce bullying in schools
My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.
for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

Lovely letter but unfortunately I don't think that can be true. Adjuvant chemo for breast cancer was first used from the mid-70s. Maybe seeing Arcadia was when Baum 1st understood *why* it was effective? Doesn't make sense otherwise - was widely used much earlier.

Is welfare spending ''out of control''?

It's estimated to be 10.8 per cent of GDP this financial year.

That's just 0.8 per cent of GDP higher than in 2007-08, and total welfare spending has actually fallen fallen by 1.2 per cent of GDP since 2012-13⤵️ buff.ly/s5mz97u
