Wild how every single member of the political and business elite went into full drooling fascism the second the prospect of consequences for abhorrent behavior started to seem possible
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

the man has admitted to sexually assaulting people and was legally proven by a court of law to be sexually assaulting people (a notoriously hard thing to do) but I’m sure this new evidence that he was sexually assaulting people will really wake up the base. It’ll be our lucky sexual assault evidence

For my newsletter, I talked about the proposed teenage phone restrictions in the name of a murdered teenage trans girl.

(Noted this twice in the piece but again, I have no issue with Esther Ghey)

Brianna Ghey's Phone Didn't Stab Her 28 Times
The trans girl murder victim's mom has turned her death into an unrelated political crusade against teenage phone use. Note: I want to be clear upfront that I have no issue with Esther Ghey, mother o...

I think any attempt to define modern ttrpg 'cultures of play' is a failure if it doesn't classify "5e/critrole fandom" as its own thing largely disconnected from other ttrpg (or analogue game) play-cultures, and instead largely drawing from fandom and fanfic subcultures.

Interesting how the line is, now that we have legalized sports gambling across the board there's no putting that genie back in the bottle versus sure we can end the hemp industry with one line in an unrelated bill.
The shutdown deal includes a ban on hemp products that none of its negotiators debated in public.

Disappointing that only 24 senators voted against killing an amendment to strike that ban.

I'm at this point entirely convinced that the purpose of "mens mental health" is to deny women, non binary and queer people of recognition that we have minds and can suffer. I've never once seen "women's mental health" sessions be offered in a workplace.

At some point we have to confront that we're not trying to educate an ignorant population about the struggles of queer life and epistemic injustice.

They KNOW, and they want to keep it that way, if not make it worse. We are an affront to their pathetic, rotten societies.

So even as tech oligarchs make social media and information access unreliable and radioactive, conservatives will still rail against the left-wing propaganda saturating The Online because to them, every queer person who exists is a failure. Every queer person who comes out and thrives is a failure.

dwarf fortress bugs come in 3 flavors:
1. preposterous bullshit that is a complete edge case but sounds funny
2. minor tweak needed to avoid legacy code in cat self-adoption causing cats to inevitably catch fire and burn fortresses down
3. spanish inquisition grade suburban wine mom heresy
"babies are born worshipping unknown gods" is one of the most incredible dwarf fortress bugs i have heard of. its poetry.

theres a reason you never, ever, ever under any circumstances adopt the rightwings framing of an issue: their brains are so warped by their cruel, mendacious worldview that their priors are built into the foundation of everything they talk about. to adopt their framing *is to accept their worldview*

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It's funny how laser weapons in sci-fi are associated with "kids' shows" because of the way a lot of media historically used them as an excuse to avoid blood and gore, when the reality is that a pulse laser weapon used on a human being would be almost unbelievably gory

matrilineists: yeah we just write down who comes out of who

judge: simple & ea—

patrilineists: their system will make men feel cucked! we propose a vast surveillance system enforced with physical & sexual violence

j: and that will make men feel less cucked?

p: no it will make us feel more cucked
it makes perfect sense that they would be, since tracking patrilineal descent essentially requires the establishment of a vast apparatus of sexual control that warps all of society around it, encouraging violence and paranoia and thereby elevating cruelty and malice to the highest virtues.
