Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

But, in addition to that process - which for me was both conscious and voluntary - there's also the experience of being read and unconsciously responded to as a man.
Any trans person whose appearance changes significantly has to go through this. It took longer and felt more difficult to adjust to.
