God this is such a pointless nightmare
We haven’t even gotten through car-oriented culture war stuff which is really only just beginning, can’t even imagine this
i'm convinced if we ever tried to touch the rail of meat politics in America (something that's going to eventually need to happen in order to reduce CO2 emissions), it would lead to a huge right-wing shock
remembering the time a random catholic priest got mad at me about a hypothetical about the government restricting meat production on the other site
meat politics is going to be insane for the next Dem administration which takes climate change seriously, imo

I was confused about this when it was happening in 2010 but I’m not anymore. People are dumb as rocks
does anyone else remember the way inception was sold as this super confusing movie? and that newspapers were printing visual guides on what the plot was? and then you saw the movie and it was actually really straight forward?
what was that about

Time to stop dooming over the shutdown deal and focus on what really matters: Pointlessly hostile left-coded Star Wars hot takes.

Trying to make this observation delicately, but there was an obvious relationship between users with the “posted more than 100 times yesterday” badge and users who had a very hard time with Senate developments

People with the urge to respond “but that’s not true!” are 1) obviously wrong, 2) missing the point in either case
Wish people with any kind of audience would please focus on this shitshow still actually being Republican’s fault entirely

I continue to think one of the biggest divides on this site is between people who understand that the last time we had a good, relatively easy way out of all this was Nov 5, 2024, and people who still don’t.

I just want more resilience from my side of the aisle. Which means from Democratic senators, but also from the people on this site acting like it’s time to die

My husband and I disagree about the politics of the shutdown, which means I cannot just close this app and escape the debate

Carturd had a post this week about how the current shutdown was “proving every day Obama was a failure” and it made me really reevaluate how likely Republicans were to cave

I think this is especially important because a population too angry about “affordability” relative to the past clearly tends to turn on immigrants
Let me put it another way: false nostalgia for a better past that didn’t actually exist is a pillar of fascism.
You can (and should) work to help Americans who are struggling without boosting fascist narratives in the process. Both really is possible.

Thinking it over more/talking with my husband, I think Trump (or whoever is acting for him in these debates, maybe Vought? Miller) wants to keep SNAP unfunded to exert maximal political pressure on Democrats *and Republicans* because he/they want that fucking filibuster gone, or else
I think if I could control Senate negotiations I’d refuse to talk until SNAP was funded, though since Republicans are gonna say “no” no matter what at this point this is just a quibble, maybe even a bad idea and the headlines we got today are better

really illustrates just how stupid and unnecessary this whole shutdown is that we're almost 40 days in and Dems repeating what they've been asking for the entire time has people howling for blood because it's so unbelievably little that it must be them caving and surrendering

It's bad manners to force the issue but in a lot of environmental advocacy (not necessarily climate), there is remarkable ambivalence about whether or not there should be people at all.

I am surprised to wake up to numerous people mad at me for saying that Trump is a uniquely successful and persuasive politician because 1) it’s … quite obviously true, look around you, and 2) it’s actually one of my more optimistic opinions
