(I do sew with somewhat heavy poly thread a lot-- what's the issue, out of curiosity? is it just that the machine is older than synthetic fabric?)

I should also mention: the guy at the thrift store who marked it down to $30 said he restores every old phonograph they get ("I can't let them pass me by") and offered me a mauve/tan, space-age looking Singer in a mint condition midcentury console table that had just arrived

Mine was the best possible intro to sewing machines though. I would say RIP but I bet it's still out there being repeatedly sold for $20 on Craigslist

The only reason I'm avoiding those is because my first machine was a 1974 Kenmore and I did eventually run into quibbles with it (mine had great piercing power but really struggled with things that were *dimensionally* thick, also I'd like some more throat space if I can get it)

Also, I have a 1924 Singer acting as a counterweight on my office shelf that almost certainly works but is... another dedicated straight stitch machine (with no reverse!) bsky.app/profile/chea...
