It is possible to hold both of these things true at the same time:

1) political violence is never an appropriate choice in a civilized society

2) Charlie Kirk’s dream is to create exactly the kind of society he currently lives in, as spoken from his own mouth

I am once again incensed that my House Rep didn’t retire before this last election. Because now he’s dead and there’s no one in his seat yet.

How about everyone who isn't currently in Minneapolis just shhhhhhh about what the people in Minneapolis should or should not do today re: protests.

Keep your eyes on your own paper. If you've got time to be on here telling Minnesotans what to do, you've got time to GET TO WORK.

They are inflicting "everything everywhere all at once" upon all of us, because that's how fascism, everywhere authoritarianism, wins: via overwhelm.

But they're not strategic, and they think everyone else is as cowardly as they are.

If we overwhelm them back, they won't be able to cope.
The protests & slowdowns & leaks & refusals to comply & boycotts & strikes & antifascist art & gumming up the works & sanctuary projects & all the other stuff that we’ve got to run all at once have to feel like that too.

Break their hold bit by bit.

Here, there, & over here too, until - whoosh.
It's hard to overstate how destructive the reflexive "this is a distraction!" stuff that politicians and commentators and people are always peddling.

Everything is happening all at once. That's how authoritarianism works. If you can't navigate and synthesize this, you're not meeting the moment.

Yuuuuup. Being an asshole limits your options. Or to put it another way, in any major project there's room for maybe one asshole. That's probably not going to be you, and you shouldn't fight anyone for that role.
One lesson I've learned the hard way, not being a pain in the ass to work with goes farther than almost anything else in life.

Deep in my heart I do not believe that Jurassic Park would pose substantially different or more challenging security issues than any well stocked zoo.

I called my senators and US rep and told them to join Van Hollen on his trip to El Salvador and bring back the people who have been wrongly imprisoned in those concentration camps.

Call your reps and tell them the same thing if you feel similarly.

Protests show that people are paying attention. Protests show that people aren’t going to go along with things. Protests matter.
Protest changes the permission structure. It says fascists will not be allowed to proceed unencumbered. And if you didn't think there was anything to be done, a protest shows you many think otherwise.

Human beings have human rights. The protections of the Constitution aren't reserved for law-abiding citizens and/or people who "came here the right way". They are human rights. If authoritarians carve out a sacrificial class that lacks those protections, they become universally revokable.

We need the theater in order to change the narrative.

No, by itself Sen. Booker's stunt doesn't accomplish anything substantive, but it makes it easier to do substantive things down the road.
re: Sen. Booker: whether we like it or not, a good portion of politics is theater. they call it "hollywood for ugly people" for a reason. it doesn't make you a rube to clap for a decent show

@schatz.bsky.social this is why you should not vote yes.
if Trump and his cronies are able to veto appropriations made by Congress, then we've already moved into a dictatorial system of government. Why would Democrats waste time negotiating spending deals if Trump can just rip them up after he signs them?
