This gown was altered four times over a decade as fashion changed- things changed fast from 1863-1873. Most of the alterations were to the skirt shape, going from a bell to a bustled version.

This is a cut away coat from the early 1800s that was alternate to be a frock coat a few decades later. You can TELL, right? But it was still okay.

Look at this astounding Hawaii quilt. The pattern is called “the crown of Ka’iulani.” Princess La’iulani was the heir to Hawaii when Hawaii was annexed by the US.
