my beloved dust bowl au. wrote less than one chapter but i have a playlist, a timeline of events spanning 10 years and several states, a folder of dust storm photos, ideas of historical figures to cast everyone as, and a few clear-as-day images in my head that likely no one else will ever see 😅
-1941 There were clouds gathering on the horizon. Might be nothing. God only knew there'd been enough of those over the last decade, the promise of rain hanging heavy in the sky, only to piss down just enough to wet the first millimeter of soil before the clouds dissipated, dissolved like a field crumbling into dust. But this felt different. There was a hum in the air, a humid buzz that felt like a long-ago dream, nearly forgotten. Good. It was too late for Ed—a few hours, or eighty-seven days, or maybe ten years too late to make a difference for him. But he thought of the people in the town at his back. Thought of young, fierce protectiveness and a distant orange grove buried by dust, and thought, good. That's good. He kept walking.

Get ready for a Game Changer! Tonight’s guests: it’s Izzy ‘kicked out of Anger Management’ Hands! Welcome Lucius ‘Hole is a Goal’ Spriggs! And finally, let’s welcome Edward “Blackbeard” Teach! And your host, me! The Gentleman Host! I’ve been here the whole time!” Stede gave a playful spin, setting the tails of his red coat to twirl a little. “Welcome to Game Changer! The only show where the game changes every episode. I’m your host joined by these three lovely contestants. You know how the game works?” Their ‘no’s’ went from Lucius’ sarcasm to Izzy’s muttered profanity. “That’s right, our contestants have no idea what game it is they’re about to play. The only way to learn is by playing, and the only way to win is by learning and the only way to begin is by beginning,” the patter was a familiar comfort that helped ground Stede for what he knew was either going to be a phenomenal episode or the lowest rated dumbest thing he’d ever done. Every episode’s game changed--hence the name--and it was as much improv as it was solving the mystery of what the rules were. And, if the ratings on his small independent network were to be trusted, an enormous fan favorite. It drove people to even voluntarily increase their monthly subscription rate! He had to be doing something right. Smothering his maniac grin, Stede focused on his role. “Let’s get today started. Contestants…Yes…or No?”

oh my god hiiiiiii so i maybe have a wip wednesday even though it's new so i don't want to jinx it but also !!!

please be warned it's kinda MCD (for most of the fic, stede's a ghost) but he is very much explicitly dead in this snip, which depicts an alt 1x03 in which ed arrives too late to save him
He draws his dagger, throws an arm around the dead man’s waist. The jacket is so soft, and his flesh is still warm through it. Not long gone, but gone all the same. Ed carries his weight as he cuts down the rope, staggering a little as it transfers into his arms, and sets him down on the deck. The Gentleman Pirate is not a small man, but he looks it in stillness. Delicate and pretty, tied in a bloody bow. Ed runs his fingers along the smoothness of his coat, the embroidered detail on the placket, even the silk of his stockings. He eases the noose from his neck and wipes away traces of blood beneath it, like he's cleaning him up, readying him for burial.

This is still one of my favorites — the stomacher of my cake topper gown. It’s cream dupioni silk, embroidered in gold silk and backed with linen. There’s the tentacle motif at the top (and message in a bottle), and below Barbados lilies. It’s crusted with pearls and glass and gold beads.

Here's a #WIPWednesday for race walking Stede. Covered for horny vibes. Thinking about publishing the first chapter this week even though it is terrifying to start posting something I haven't finished! But trying to let go of perfectionism! I appreciate all the encouragement for my little WIPs. 💖
Ed feigns casualness with a shrug and follows Stede into the lobby. Ed has walked past this place many times and knows it’s fancy as fuck, several cuts above the hotels out by the highway, but he’s still not prepared for how it feels to step from the bustling noisy sidewalk into the luxe lobby, all soft furnishings and dark velvet curtains and two fucking chandeliers over the check-in desk. Stede must be doing pretty well for himself to be able to afford to stay here on the busiest weekend of the year. It’s a quick elevator ride up to the third floor, but it’s still enough time for Ed to twist himself into knots about what’s going to happen when they reach that bedroom. Cause this is the exact opportunity he’s been imagining since Stede appeared, all shimmering and Barbie-bright. Right? But he hasn’t had time to lay the groundwork yet, really make sure Stede’s single (or something close enough) and interested. Still. What if. He’s playing the possible scenarios out in his head and vibrating as the elevator doors open (brush up close, Stede’s sweat, lips, neck), vibrating as they walk down the elegant hallway with sconces casting a soft glow (silky waistband, hips, hips, hips), vibrating practically out of his boots as the keycard reader beeps and Stede pushes the door open (knees sinking into plush carpet, soft moans, a hand tangled into–) “Oh no!” Stede backs up and shuts the door again, leaving them both standing there in the hallway. Ed barely has time to think, what the fuck, before Stede’s begun monologuing in a truly incomprehensible ramble: “Okay. Don’t panic.

happy wip wednesday. i feel like i don’t know who i am anymore because i’m on chapter 3 of this thing and each chapter is under 5k and there is zero actual smut on the page and it feels kinda wrong, but i also don’t know how to make it right. rest in peace, i guess, long smutty bryn fics 😔
“Do you have an early morning?” Ed asks, fingers still twined with Stede’s as he leans against a tree in front of the restaurant, its trunk covered in carvings, many of them lewd. It’s a lovely evening– cool, slightly breezy, floral. The tree’s not wide enough to lean beside him, so Stede leans into him a little instead, not pinning him there, but perhaps suggesting that he could. He brushes a kiss over Ed’s lips, just a soft, little thing– an amuse bouche, maybe, one that tastes like natural wine. “I have a rare morning off, actually,” he replies. “Perhaps we could… walk to your place?” The second the words are out, Stede feels a little shock of cold, because he doesn’t miss the shift in Ed’s eyes, the way the inner corners of his brows flick up– the slightest microexpression. “I mean– god, I’m sorry, I don’t mean to–” “I’d fucking love to have you over,” Ed huffs, warming him up with an arm around the back of his neck, and now he very nearly is pinning him to the tree, but Ed certainly seems alright with the arrangement. Stede’s more than fine with it, too. “Thing is, I’ve got my mum staying with me right now– been keeping an eye on her after a knee replacement surgery– and she’s kinda–” “Oh, god,” Stede huffs back, relieved, “say no more. Shall we go back to mine?”
