I signed a bunch of copies at Woodworking at Women and Children First bookstore in Chicago, where I am annoyingly stranded for 36 hours. It is in STAFF PICKS.

Also, it is my BIRTHDAY, so you should buy my book in MY HONOR.

This is what happens when a political party is hearing "man the guillotines" from everyone but their donor class: incoherent midde-way bloodless meaningless garbage for the status quo.
"Strong floor, no ceiling" is very literally the basis of like every Gilded Age political cartoon

I think the corollary that a lot of people miss about "write what you know" is that *you have the power to know more things.* Research and talking to people are a central part of writing!
“write only what you know” is bullshit because a man wrote silent hill f and this shit rocks!!!! its feminist core resonates SO strongly if you’re a woman!!!!

I hate how under the radar this flew given that it’s one of the better tight little thrillers I’ve seen in the last five years or so. A few moments that genuinely made me *holy shit* gasp

Northwestern joins the growing list of US universities which are caving to Trump by agreeing to illegally ban trans people from facilities.

Banning trans people from bathrooms is illegal in Illinois, as affirmed by law and a court ruling.

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

There's a lot of angst around the fact that many trans people don't have the ability to move.

From the start my view has simply been that I'd rather see as many of us make it as possible. That means I want to see as many of us make it to safety as possible.
This is a really good New Republic article about trans people leaving the country. Do some research about getting visas. Start now. It is harder and slower than you think, and there are no opportunities for asylum right now. It also is entirely doable.

Thankful I learned Cyberstalking in Illinois is a Class 4 felony, up to 3 years in prison w/ a $25K fine, if a person says things online w/ intent to cause a person who lives in IL emotional distress. The perpetrator can live anywhere.

It can be classified a hate crime if the victim is diverse.

When our son was 10 he would ask questions about whatever narrative we were consuming together and it took one talk like "those questions you're always asking are called the story and if you're patient you'll find that they get answered eventually" and a lot of the internet needs that refresher.
"WHY'S SHE DOING THAT?? WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT, I'M BORED" well the cool thing about following a narrative is that eventually if you keep watching or reading or listening, magical bits of information are doled out

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.
