Why is Caleb not allowed to be bad at anything? Why are we supposed to find the Betazoid princess interesting because she plays basketball? And WHY is the chancellor always wearing foot chain mail?

Starfleet Academy is SO GOOD when it focuses on the supporting characters like Jay Den and SAM and literally everyone but the most boring couple in the quadrant.

It’s fine to refuse to engage with social media for its toxicity and harmful qualities—I get that. But teaching for decades without figuring out how to use the online course system, or refusing to answer email because you don’t like it…you gotta be online sometimes friends.

Really, really tired of humanities academics refusing to engage with technology. I literally study medieval manuscripts, and I can still pull together a website or join a Discord chat. This is pretty basic, and I know it’s shifting all the time and can be frustrating, but you have to learn.

Archives matter - but not to the Carney government. Canada has only ONE federal funding program for community archives, and they just killed it. Gone.

The Farmer's Market announced that they will be returning to downtown for weekend markets in 2026. For 2024&25, weekend markets were in Confederation Park on the REAL campus. Surveys of the public showed strong support for downtown location. #yqrcc

Tomorrow I'm doing a lecture with a glorious disaster of a medieval Cymraeg story & so today I'm putting it on Bluesky (so I don't have to open X-itter where I told it the first time)

It might be incestuous & sort of has bestiality, but it's also one of the oldest Welsh stories with an LGBT theme!

For sure! I was hoping that library staff would jump in to show how wild it's become.

"We can use AI to cure diseases!" You know what helps with medical research? People. Paid doctors and researchers who aren't exhausted. Human minds looking for things we haven't considered before. Creativity and passion. Not a machine incapable of real learning.

I get as well that librarians are divided over AI use, and often the promotion comes from admin in ways that are difficult to challenge. It's messy.
February 3, 2026 at 5:05 PM
Lots of students are angry about AI promotion. They're baffled by how universities are pushing the tech on them, and they don't want any part of it. Students are independent agents and they often get instrumentalized in these conversations.

Don't even get me started on how so many CTLs are uncritically promoting AI and telling instructors to "stop policing students." AI isn't liberatory, and none o us want to be cops. We're just trying to teach process-based writing and research and digital literacy.
February 3, 2026 at 4:57 PM
Not a great look that so many university libraries are promoting AI. Libraries have always been a space for valuing authors' work and showing how to locate and properly cite sources--not encouraging tech that steals from authors and produces slop.

Special editions of popular novels are fun--I get it. But (*killjoy voice*), 99.9% of stories don't get this kind of treatment. And the fancier the edition, the more expensive it is, making more money for the publisher and rendering it inaccessible to most readers. Support a library instead!
