Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be as wise as serpents and innocent as doves. I don't trust people who want us to skip the be wise part and move straight to the innocent part.

I sent what I hope is the last pre-submission draft to the book packager on Monday! It should get a final round of line edits there and then get sent to their literary agent.

I spent the last two days mostly sleeping.

The most Blueskyed I ever got was on Twitter when I expressed interest in a museum exhibit about Alexander the Great and some dude was like, “Sure, I suppose that would be interesting… IF YOU’RE PRO-GENOCIDE”

It's really funny to me that Polidori's vampire book is ALSO about what a creep Byron was.

OK, here's my quick and dirty, un-fact-checked recollection of the sitch in the Swiss chalet where Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. She was there with her dude Percy, Byron, Byron's doctor what's-his-name who wrote a vampire novel; and her stepsister Claire, who was obsessed with Byron
del Toro: see, dr frankenstein is actually just recreating the cycle of abuse from his own distant father
Shelley: what?? fuckin hell
Shelley: that's not right!
Shelley: he's a sexy bad boy!
Shelley: he's based on my gay asshole boyfriend byron
Lord Byron [tossing hair]: that's right, he is

del Toro: don't worry
del Toro: i'm going to acknowledge byron with a big quote at the end
Shelley:
Shelley: why
del Toro: because, you know
del Toro: he's
del Toro: um
del Toro: i mean it kinda fits?
Shelley:
Shelley: put my fuckin quote at the end
Shelley: i wrote the fucking thing!

Shelley: FINALLY, someone understands my vision!
King: and what's your vision, mary?
Shelley: that frankenstein is super fuckable
King: the doctor or the monster?
Shelley: why not both?
del Toro: yeah, why not both?

I was right about there being more I needed to do on my manuscript. Some of the cuts the editors made left orphaned references. I didn’t catch them when I was addressing the development notes.

It’s not the most important issue here, but, Jesus, the way these guys write is worse than kids’ text messages.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

I'm not trying to be mean, but racists who believe Trump betrayed them by being a child molester are not going to embrace the Democratic Party without forcing that party to embrace racism. And the people gained would in no way make up for those lost.

I have thoughts about the use of Byron’s poetry as epigraphs in GDT’s Frankenstein that I should write properly about.

Also about arsenic green and mauve dyes.

there are a whole slew of christian traditions, and there is not in fact any easy rubrik for deciding which is authentic christianity—and really if you're not a christian, there's no reason to even think there is an "authentic" christianity
