If I understand law correctly, Trump can't charge Meduro, because Meduro didn't commit crimes in US jurisdiction.

And he can't charge him under international law, cos Meduro will just say "abducting me is also a breach of international law"

So... what's the plan?

Is there a plan?

Or Guantanamo?

For years I watched established journalists fumble to explain trump. "Maybe he's playing 4D chess," they'd say.

No, he's just a stupid, impulsive criminal. And you normalised him.

I’m thinking this morning about all the people I spoke to last year who were absolutely convinced, and tried to convince me, that Trump would be antiwar compared to Biden and Harris.

In the past week alone he has attacked Nigeria and then Venezuela and also threatened to attack Iran (again).

Keir Starmer says he wants to establish facts by *watching Donald Trumps press conference.*

People said giving him a second state visit was a genius move of strategy - really seems to have paid off.

Special relationship - alive and kicking.

Keir Starmer's cowardly response to President Trump attacking Venezuela

"I want to establish the facts first"

"I want to speak to President Trump, to our allies"

"I always say and believe we should uphold international law"

"But at this stage, let's establish the facts"

In fact, early reporting is that this (surely illegal!) Venezuela raid was delayed from Christmas because we struck Nigeria that day instead! There’s so much war we have deconflict which says we’re at war where.

So, to clarify, spray-painting a plane is terrorism, holding a sign to support the organisation those that spray-painted the plane were members of is terrorism, but taking a foreign head of state hostage needs to wait for a press conference from the hostage taker for nuance?

Starmer’s response to Trump attacking Venezuela:

Really?

After the unforgivable stance on Israel he’s got no leg to stand on

…and the moral high ground will never be his to claim.

Following very closely the situation in Venezuela.

We stand by the people of Venezuela and support a peaceful and democratic transition.

Any solution must respect international law and the UN Charter.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Spray paint a plane and they'll detain you without trial and call you a terrorist.

Kidnap a foreign head of state - and Keir Starmer will make it clear we've played no part in it but will wait for the scheduled press conference in a few hours before potentially condemning it

So fmr Honduran President Hernandez voluntarily surrendered, and was duly extradited, tried and convicted for drug trafficking, and Trump pardoned him 6w ago.

And this morning, Trump illegally attacks Venezuela and abducts its president and his wife purportedly to try them for drug trafficking.

Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.

Trump has no strategic mind. Only sees what's immediately in front of him.

HAS to "win" a fireside chat with Zelenskyy.

Doesn't think about that meaningless "win" aiding USA's rivals. He's incapable. Too dumb.

This "win" against Venezuela gives the green light to Russian and Chinese expansionism

And of Venezuela retaliates against US territory across the Gulf of Mexico and the US triggers Article 5, we are treaty-bound to come to the US’ aid.

If any NATO member doesn’t, Trump renounces the treaty and leaving Europe open to Russia.
