I gotta know what someone in the NPR subreddit said in response to my interview with Rian Johnson that was so vile a mod replied “What did Jesse Thorn ever do to you?”

“Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Does he dictate his tweets to a secretary with a stenographer’s notebook and nylons with a line down the back? Or to a dictaphone and the tapes are transcribed later?

This, in particular, is the kind of work that I am very grateful for—and I hope you feel proud of it too if you support public media.
I sat down with Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges, who both defended the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 and experienced some of the most brutal violence that day.

We watched their bodycam footage together - moment by moment.

Look at this thread, please
I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

Post something on the Internet about gender transition and find in your replies what anyone who’s trans will tell you: trans people who can’t access medical care are often emotionally crushed by their bodies. Those who can are so often liberated and thrilled to be alive.

I interviewed the always-insightful, never less than lovely @rianjohnson.bsky.social about his wonderful new Knives Out movie, about evangelical Christianity and about going to see high school theater.

When republican legislators in Utah ordered a comprehensive review of gender-affirming care for trans kids, they got back a 1000-word tome that concluded: yes, gender-affirming care is good and safe. Then? They banned care anyway.

This is such an apt description of the NYT’s response to the interview with their former editor about their anti-trans bias.
The sneering tone of this response is like a kid on the schoolyard holding his finger an inch away from your nose chanting “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you.”

This was the best @nytimes.com could do? Talk about telling on yourself. Woof.

Like guys: why do you think more than ONE THOUSAND of YOUR contributors signed a letter saying your coverage of trans issues sucks?

MAYBE BECAUSE IT SUCKS.
Evan here. After thinking about this long and hard, I'm posting a link to a New York Times' response to an interview with Billie Sweeney (who generously volunteers as an editor and writer with Assigned Media).

This interview ran in another outlet, Trans News Network.

Utah commissioned it's department of health to do a systematic review of gender affirming care for trans youth. In a 1000 page plus report found it was beneficial and the evidence was substantial. The lawmakers rejected it anyways.

Probably good advice for many, including if you're in the UK.

Note for Brits: For some reason I didn't know about the CTA until recently: www.gov.uk/government/p... but that means Ireland (Sorry, Jesse!) is likely going to feature in a lot of our plans.
If you are a trans person and you think you might need to leave the country, I implore you: start now. Not just thinking. Planning. Because it’s harder than you think.
