There has been a housing crisis where I am from in North Clare for much of the past 25 years

Constant shortage of affordable rental housing and knock-on labour shortages (ironically impacting the tourist industry most)

The council has not built a single public housing unit in decades
Places like achill and Killarney that are impossible to find a place to live in create their own political consensus. cause the people who can't find anywhere to live there leave and the people who can are often landlords like MHR himself
U-turn on regulating short-term lets: striking a balance or a sop to Michael Healy-Rae?

The lesson here folks is, if enough pressure is applied over a controversial issue a decision will eventually be taken out of the hands of the local authority and ruled on directly by Cabinet. A great day for local democracy in our country

this shit is unbelievable. ""he reality is that the Moon has reliable stores of oxygen and silicon, and building a catapult-like mechanism on the airless world would be an efficient way to move materials into space to build large orbital factories, data centers, solar farms, even O’Neill cylinders."
Watching Eric Berger (historically a Musk fanboy) struggle with the revelation that Musk is a fake engineer conman white supremacist never loses its entertainment value
Why would Elon Musk pivot from Mars to the Moon all of a sudden?
SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon."

I work a specialist admin job in a large university. After several restructurings I was left without a line manager. I think they just forgot about me. Not been given any work in three years. I just turn up occasionally and work a few side hustles from the office.

Genuinely didn't get that Skehan meant "policy goals will be imposed" to be a bad thing. Isn't that what policy is supposed to do?

school uniform fever: catch it!
that thing where your child won't pick out their sweater so you pick out their sweater but that sweater, upon review, does not align with their vision, so now, .05 seconds before the bus arrives, they WILL go pick out their own sweater, actually-- love that. best way to start the day

One of Starmer's biggest problems is that he often wears dark-coloured formal shirts, which are for knobs.
The gulls, dupes and stans of the Adults Back In Charge caucus have to spin the flushing of Starmer as a Lost Cause myth, otherwise they'll reveal exactly who they really are—basic liars and simpletons.

Look, of course the outcome was disappointing, but let's not forget that in rugby possession is a prized commodity and there are significant tariffs for those that are indiscriminately wasteful in its husbandry.

It's a tale as old as time.

As far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your Peace Prizes and all your Chemistry Prizes and all your Physics Prizes and all your Literature Prizes into the biggest f***ing dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly.
Norway’s economic crime police unit, Oekokrim, said it has opened an investigation into former prime minister and Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjørn Jagland on suspicion of aggravated corruption, based on information revealed in newly released files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
