The Fourth Estate should not be the Fifth Column. Some analysis on @bylinetimes.bsky.social

The fact that we are still holding people's feet to the fire over the fact violent, racist, genocide-supporting hooligans *should have been allowed* to rampage through Britain's second city, speaks volumes about this country.

Wes Streeting, part of a govt that won't confirm it'd uphold an ICC arrest warrant, won't meet its obligations under the genocide convention, & won't condemn what the US has done in Venezuela, says he's concerned about the disintegration of the rules based international system

The mezzo-soprano Nosferatu of Pennsylvania Avenue, Steven Miller, just stated that: "Nobody's going to fight America, militarily, over the future of Greenland."

Damn right, that's cos they're just gonna pay for it in dollars, and the Danes will take the money and kiss their ass for the privilege.

FWIW, I'd predict that the most dangerous thing the world has to contend with in 2026 is Trump's health.

His heightened megalomania is that of a despot wanting to secure his legacy & dynasty, & the more obvious his decline gets, the more those around him will try to sideline him.

It'll get messy.

Be assured that prominent European leaders will be doing their utmost to ensure this doesn't happen, by pressuring the Danes to accept whatever pay-off comes their way, and convincing them to resettle Greenlanders in Denmark if necessary.

“Everything stops” if the U.S. annexes the Arctic island, Mette Frederiksen said.

"Starmer refuses to condemn Venezuela attack."

You're the elected First Lackey of the US's primary vassal state in Eurasia—what else are you gonna do?

"Starmer refuses to say whether the US broke international law."

You were one of the UK's leading legal professionals—you are beyond contempt.

Trump to the press: "We are going in to take the oil."

UN Ambassador Walz at the Security Council: "This is a law enforcement operation to stop drug trafficking."

Zero mentions of the black gold.

Know your audience, eh?

OMFG he's actually done this for real.
January 5, 2026 at 2:39 PM
I'd say the goverment is in a tight spot when their fanbase and retainers start obliquely admitting that calling the prime minister "Kid Starver" and "Two-tier Keir" was justified.

In today's Everything is America Now, on the left we have the Republican Governor of Texas in April 2025, on the right we have the UK Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government yesterday.

I'd be more than a little perturbed by how easily the apparatus of state is turned on ordinary citizens, especially given a current govt that imprisons pensioners for protesting genocide, and is keeping the seat warm for the fascists awaiting their turn behind the wheel.

Security Service was able to compile detailed files on members of legitimate protest groups infiltrated by undercover police officers

Just imagine a world where the Axis of Good didn't have to pretend that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

No dossiers needed to be sexed up.

No weapons scientists needed to be suicided.

An easier world. A better world. Our world!

One thing that's for certain, whatever self-congratulatory media content comes out of Maduro and/or his wife in chains being lead to the hoosegow will be a new low, even for the US.

Say what you will, but
Trump does have significant experience engaging with Latin American leaders connected to drug trafficking.

He pardons them.

Speaking on the bombing of a sovereign nation and extraction of its leader for a show trial in the Big Apple, the learnèd Sir Keir declines to condemn the action, and says that he believes international law should always be upheld.

RIGHTO.
January 3, 2026 at 1:35 PM
A lot of people today saying the US has gone mad.

Incorrect.

They just don't have to pretend to be sane anymore.
January 3, 2026 at 1:24 PM
Watching the US bomb and extract the leader of another sovereign nation to face trial in New York, and this isn't wrong is it?

Support for the genocide of the people of Palestine is as defining moment in world uncivilization.
The Palestinian genocide is the whole ball game.

It's been the useful catalyst & pretext for govts across the West to quell all manner of dissent at home, & rewrite the laws of war abroad.

Conveniently, it's also coincided with neoliberalism's transition into feudalism, so a total win-win there.
