New EV registrations in Ireland, January to October 2025. Tesla models are number 2 and 4 in the top 20 best-selling EVs. What is it that people here love about those awful cars?

If auto/car advertising was banned the media would very quickly find alternative funding & no longer be complicit. Almost every ad on radio in Ireland is car related (insurance/trade/garages/tyres/etc).
“The Media Is Complicit in the Climate Confusion: The vast majority of people want their governments to take climate action—but most wrongly think they’re in the minority. The media is partly to blame.”

So the new and outgoing Presidents of Ireland met yesterday and a certain book was visible on the table...

Thanks @president.ie Michael D. Higgins for your great service to Ireland down the years (and for this little personal surprise).

Here's to the success of President elect Catherine Connolly.

Funny watching Paul Murphy and John Clendennen on RTÉ the other day. Clendennen keeps saying "we need a debate about migration" to which Murphy says "okay lets have a debate", and then Clendennen just keeps saying "we need to have a debate". Its very clear what Fine Gael are trying to do here!

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

Very entertaining thread, it's funny how millions of people apparently think Elon is Thomas Edison when he's basically Lyle Lanley
Most of the Tesla shareholder proposals are like "Tesla is an incredible company, but maybe we should make sure we have some basic accountability or make sure we aren't exploiting child labor" and the board recommends against all of them

Interested to hear how Micheál squares his attendance at the UN Climate Change Conference against his recent statements about mitigation actions being business unfriendly, his govt's wish to continue breaching the EU nitrates directive, and their slowdown in focus on climate action generally
While Micheál Martin was en route to Brazil for COP30, Fianna Fáilers whose names were included on a so-called “naughty list” of rebels were speaking of their upset at being named. jrnl.ie/6865824
Fianna Fáilers vent about so-called 'naughty list' while the boss is en route to Brazil
The meeting was also told there is “serious risk” the government is taking a flawed approach to the nitrates derogation deal.

A little wish-fulfilmenty of me maybe, but I get the feeling our 'TikTok Tánaiste' is seething at the idea of a younger, more charismatic, popular politician being all over the news cycle, while he digs himself into an ever-deeper ideological hole
It's brilliant and exciting to see Zohran Mamdani elected.
More leaders like him please, and fewer like Cuomo, Schumer and the rest of the oligarch-pleasing, hope-destroying, election-losing, right-centrist political class.

It's no surprise that people in Ireland have taken such an interest in the New York mayoral race; as the Dublin Citizens' Assembly showed us 3 years ago the vast majority of people here want a directly-elected mayor with executive powrrs

#spéirgorm
The 2022 Dublin Citizens' Assembly was so overwhelmingly in favour of a directly-elected mayor for the city that a vote on the proposal wasn't even deemed necessary. All the CAs to date have very accurately reflected public opinion and eventual referendum outcomes 1/4

Cheney turned the wheel of the West directly towards mass murder in a very public way during the rise of new media and with only the flimsiest of justifications.

And he, the oil companies, politicians and news outlets totally got away with it.
