My neighborhood school collectively fundraised over $100,000 to support our neighbors with rent and bills this last month.

Now we need to do it all over again for March.

PLEASE HELP!

Every family we're working to keep housed & fed has elementary aged children.

Pursued by federal agents, suburban ICE observers remain resolved
After a frightening pursuit by federal agents, suburban ICE observers say fear hasn’t stopped them from protecting their communities.

When you run into friends, neighbors and coworkers at a memorial, when you show up to help and run into so many other helpers, when someone you’ve never met before hugs you in thanks, it highlights the absolute best parts of humanity. We keep each other safe.

34,000 signing up for this work AFTER seeing their fellow citizens gunned down by federal thugs in cold blood? I'm chugging whatever the opposite of doomerism is
More than 34,000 Minnesotans signed up to be trained as ICED observers with various activist groups in recent weeks, many of them since Jan. 7, when a federal agent shot and killed Renée Good.
Thousands of new ICE watchers hit the streets after two killings
Minnesotans outraged by the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti have signed up in large numbers to monitor and protest ICE with other activists.

The Hortmans were assassinated seven months ago.

The Annunciation Church school shooting was five months ago.

Renee Good was murdered three weeks ago to the day.

It has been eight days since they took 5-year-old Liam Ramos and his father.

It has been four days since Alex Pretti was murdered.
After seeing blue/green ribbons in front of a house today, for a second I couldn’t remember if the assassination of Melissa Hortman and her husband happened before or after the Annunciation school shooting

This is Minneapolis.

Literally every corner along Lake St. packed with people holding candles, many singing, honoring a person who by all accounts was an absolute gem of a human, whose life was tragically stolen by a fascist, paramilitary occupation force.

Barely holding it together while I let my son play five more minutes of Zelda before we go grocery shopping for his schoolmate’s family who’s afraid to leave the house. I don’t know what we’re supposed to do either
I found out when I picking up ice for the cooler with the juice boxes for my kid's fourth birthday party today. I went back to the car and he was laughing hysterically over my window scraper. How are we supposed to do this? But if we love our kids, how are we supposed to let their friends get taken?
Sobbing at another senseless act of extreme violence by ICE while simultaneously on hold trying to get my kids registered for summer camp.

I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
