I’m enchanted by practical effects. Even when they’re not “believable,” they invite the viewer to participate in the movie in a way computer-generated shit does not. We have to meet the movie halfway, so to speak. We and the movie have to trust each other.

Really sad and worried about the poor reading skills of our high school grads. It shows in their interactions with us, they struggle so hard not just to write and research but with how to fully articulate their thoughts, and that’s such an important and human skill to have.
