Another January 6th defeat for the MAGA crowd.

According to the White House, this is the "true" timeline of January 6th.

In racing, it’s called “holding the pole position.”

Starting a race in the most advantageous spot, giving a significant advantage due to the shortest distance and clear track ahead.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro certainly has that advantage with more than $30M in the bank.

Per the Economist/YouGov weekly tracker, we begin 2026 with a President who is -17 on job approval (39/56), -25 on right track/wrong track (33/58), and whose net job approval ratings on the two most important issues to voters (inflation/prices, jobs/economy) are -27 and -21, respectively. 1/2

And the lead character on CBS's #1 show TRACKER is named "Briah Trachtenberg," right?
extremely important to note that the name of the doctor in the show Best Medicine is "Dr. Best"
My review of Fox's small-town dramedy Best Medicine, with Josh Charles and Abigail Spencer, that's incredibly familiar (even if you haven't seen the original Doc Martin), but not without its charms:

The question I've always asked my conservative friends is this: if there *were* such a conspiracy in any state to rig the 2020 election, what's the minimum number of people who would've had to be involved, and how is it that no one has leaked anything?
At what point would you, a diehard Trump supporter, start to wonder why, in an environment where Republicans control every branch of federal government and all of law enforcement, no one in any state has been convicted of widespread voter fraud for the 2020 election, or even charged with the crime?

Curtis Yarvin has written a very long screed in defense of his post in which he said, “Hitler spoke the truth.”

A sampling of select portions is below and includes, in reference to Jewish people, the words:

“The only way to tell is the name and the nose.”

TIL that William Safire once attempted to parse what "frim fram sauce," "ussin-fay," and "shafafa" were, and even with Diana Krall's help, he wasn't sure.

(This is also a sign that I should start lawyering today.)

What I want in 2026 is for the NYTimes to add statistical analysis to the Spelling Bee so I can see things like "ALFALFA has been an answer 96 times, but you only spotted it 5 times."

(Between that, GIGOLO, and a frequent lacuna I did spot today, my blind spots are consistent.)

Friends, a few hours ago I posted challenging whether House Republicans had, in fact, today introduced new appropriations language calling the Kennedy Center the "Kennedy Center." Via @rashaverak58.bsky.social, it is indeed legit and I deleted my prior post.

This is the best thing a Hilton has done for America since Paris appeared on Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon in 2005 (omg, his hair) and did an extremely juvenile bit very well.

If the Eagles lose before the NFC Championship Game, fans will question whether the Eagles should have played more starters this week and made a more credible effort to win this game.

And they should.

Could've secured two home games. Could be facing GB next week. Instead it's the 49ers. Damn.
Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown are *not* inactive today. With Dan Campbell doing his final week thing again with the Lions, I think it's worth it to put in the starters to begin the second half, build a lead, and be able to face GB instead of LAR/SF next week and have a second home game thereafter.
Amon-Ra St. Brown has 7 catches for 87 yards already. Jared Goff has been surgical when given time. Detroit goes 76 yards in 9 plays.

Lions 13, Bears 0

AS I WAS SAYING.
Flowers should've had the wherewithal to slide at the 1 and bleed as much time as possible before the TD.

Baltimore has Derrick Henry. Pittsburgh has no timeouts. Not the best situational awareness.

DOJ was required to report to Judge Boasberg by tomorrow as to how they planned to provide due process, whether in person or virtually, to 137 Venezuelan men sent to CECOT and returned to Venezuela without a hearing.

Understandably (I think), they'd like some extra time given yesterday's events.

I believe he's the first acting Archivist of the United States to be deputized to run a foreign country as a side hustle.
WELKER: Mr. Secretary, are you running Venezuela right now?

MARCO RUBIO: Yeah. People are fixating on that. Here's the bottom line -- we expect to see changes in Venezuela

Monday's NYT Crossword is clued incorrectly. It's not going to mess anyone up, and I can't imagine my raising it here will spoil anything for anyone. But the description is factually wrong.

21-Across: "Wrestler-turned-actor with a trademark do" (3 letters).

It was actually in the opposite order.

Mike Pence, if he has the courage.
Simple question: Who is running Venezuela right now?
