2025 #Art so far, it would seem like I've done less than last year... but like I've had a lot of stuff that I can't really show like the comic pages or 3D gigs.

Y'all will have to brace yourselves for seeing what it's like to have an adhd, brain foggy, brain, but tbh, this was an extremely helpful read for me, as I attempt to write a game script for the first time.
YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT! I HAVE WRITTEN A NEW ARTICLE!

this one's a bit weird; rather than doing my usual "trying to organize my thoughts and building a winding case that builds on itself," I decided to show you what my EARLY article creation process looks like:

docseuss.medium.com/some-loosely...
some loosely organized thoughts about dialogue sysin games
think of this as me trying to find out what parts of dialogue choices are load bearing game design and what else can be done with dialogue.

tbh, schrodinger's Elder Scrolls that is just continually delayed is not Todd Howard's worst business decision.

If it's cancelled, fans will be mad. If it's released and doesn't meet an extremely high standard, fans will be mad. If it's delayed...Fans will be annoyed but go back to ESO or whatever

The Elder Scrolls 6 — one of the most hotly anticipated video games in the world — won’t be out for some time yet despite being announced over seven years ago, Bethesda development chief Todd Howard has said.

This point here is the exact problem with all "centrist" arguments. If I'm starting at center and negotiating with the right, any result is going to be on the right. It will never, ever be on the left. There is absolutely no point between zero and negative ten that is a positive number.
It desperately needs stronger leaders.

And that means it needs hardline progressive leaders. When you start from the moderate position, you have less room to negotiate.

And you end up getting less every time.

And I've been doing politics for long enough to know clearly that the entire Senate Democratic caucus agreed to this decision to fold. Open your eyes. The 8 who "broke" did so with the complete blessing of Schumer and their colleagues. You don't have to play along because this is not a game. The end

I see the jokes about that last calling a mosque an “Islamic church” but like… old Palestinian churches had prayer niches built into them facing Mecca. You are not prepared for how flimsy the borders around these faiths are in our folk traditions. It used to freak visitors TF out, it’s so funny.

I find academics particularly awkward about telling audiences something some people might already know, even though I've found that when someone repeats some things I already know as background it enhances my perception of their credibility

Don't fear the repetition, embrace it!
Speakers, don’t assume the knowledge level of your audience. If you have a new person there and you say “I assume everyone here is familiar with this” they don’t learn anything and they probably feel bad about themselves. Better to just explain the thing. The people who are familiar with it can deal

So my son eats a bowl of Barilla Penne pasta for dinner every night. He eats it plain - no butter, no oil, a little salt in the water. It's what he likes. Like blueberries, which I covered in May, we're concerned with what it means that access to some of the things he relies on may be difficult.

Growing up, even before the ACA, I did have "romneycare" aka...the ACA but Massachusetts only. And that was when I was still reading Magic Tree House books.

So I really have minimal concept of pre-ACA healthcare. I genuinely don't know how bad this might be.

Many freelancers in the United States rely on ACA marketplace plans for their health insurance. In an industry that has already been working overtime to turn gamedevs into gig workers, freelance and contract devs are about to get even more squeezed. This is unacceptable.

Too often we use the phrase "tireless advocate" to describe community organizers who have been fighting the good fight for years and just keep on. But Dex is fucking tired. If you want to build a DFL worth fighting for, join them at abetterdfl.org.
Hi Minnesotan Bluesky:

The DFL has a well-known transphobia problem. I'm organizing to change the party platform in 2026 to be explicitly supportive of trans people in Minnesota. This will provide a basis for expelling transphobia from our party.

not enough chatter about how frequently members fly and how attacking airport capacity directly affects them in a way that cutting SNAP does not

I would not say the voicemails I just left for Wyden and Merkley were particularly charming or articulate but I do think my panic was clear, as a freelancer who only has access to healthcare at all because the ACA exists
If you have a Dem senator and you're seeing this right now, CALL THEM RIGHT NOW and tell them NO. If you don't know anyone who would be affected by this, call them for my friend Lisa. She cannot afford insurance without ACA subsidies and without health insurance I'm terrified she will die.
! A key group of Senate Democrats is leaning toward voting for a deal to end the shutdown, provided final details can be worked out like worker protections (Gift link)

(Deal does NOT include an ACA extension.)

I'm legitimately confused about the play here. No person who now is going to go without coverage in the ACA is going to just blame the GOP. They will rightly blame the Democrats too. Dems won't get "points" for "fighting" if they cave. It makes little sense.

I couldnt' respond to the person I saw bring this up, but on my mind now is the idea that...It's kinda normal *and* healthy to make snarky jokes about the downsides or even meh sides of a hobby.

And I do think there is a lack of understanding things can be multifaceted.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

I think this is because folks who don't have passion for a craft have no idea that venting is a major part of the process.

I can't NOT write. That doesn't mean I'm not going to get mad at it from time to time. I'm fucking obsessed with this, so much so that it can elate AND frustrate me.

I would personally subtract the word "crazy" as I do think there is some nuance to this but...

Yeah, uh. Schumer does in fact have a couple in his head that he consults. Last Week tonight covered it and it's elaborate in "You good?" type of ways. And also WE DO NOT CAVE BECAUSE THE BAILEYS SAID TO.

Oh yeah unacceptable. Senate Dems cannot have staked a shutdown on ACA subsidies and then cave with a….promise of a concept of a vote.

Call your Senator ASAP
Okay, Ezra is confirming that he's hearing D senators are actually plotting to cave to Trump and end the shutdown WITHOUT any extension of the ACA, just a promise of a vote later down the line.

Call your senators, friends, NOW, and tell them NO DEAL without ACA funding!
