I wish this had been my first read of 2026; instead, it's my second). What a lovely, lovely memoir. Out 7 Jan.

Me: Dear students, please do not use "AI"

Literally everything I open on the university computer connected to the projector in the classroom: "TIME TO USE AI!!!!"

😭
Microslop is willing to cannibalize one of the most recognizable product names in the world in an effort to force people to engage with their “AI” assistant.

This is going to confuse the hell out of people and be a bigger debacle than HBO / MAX.

okay open call, if you have an SFF romance coming out in 2026, and it's not grindingly heteropatriarchal in outlook and values, please tell me about it! I'm compiling my reading lists!

Speaking of awards, here is my award eligibility thread for work published in 2025, with emphasis on poetry.

In 2026, Nebula and maybe(?) the Hugo will have a poetry category. That's awesome. Speculative poetry is amazing. There's also the Rhysling, and Ignyte I think.

*looks at the news*

Um, if anyone wants to read a queer book from Greenland, I recommend Last Night in Nuuk!

I wrote about it on Goodreads a while ago -

Bogi Takács's review of Last Night in Nuuk
Contemporary queer fiction set in Greenland by a Greenlandic Indigenous author. I liked it - the anger, the uneasy fit with the world, the dynamism that pushes against conventional narrative framings....

Oh this looks up my alley!
Right. I have at least ONE THING to look forward to in the second half of this year (I heard @everinamaxwell.bsky.social mention this last year at Eastercon and I was sold even then):

Shooting at City Hall, I think the entire town is thinking is it That Guy, I know nothing. 😬 I hope everyone is safe, the news says the situation has been controlled:

I was wondering if anyone was making a list of these because there are so many coming up! And yes:
2026 has the potential to be an even better year for detective games than last year, which had at least 46 releases! I made a thread here for upcoming games I am aware of. If I have played the Demo or Playtested it, I will describe the games a bit, as well as when they state their release dates.

Last call for the Steam winter sale! My thread of 50 cool indie games.
Ahahaha my time has come!!! Let's do this!!!

I'm a bit pressed for time rn, so I'll probably do a couple now, and the rest over the weekend (G-d willing).

A lot of puzzle / thinky games, narrative-focused, queer stuff will follow (not every game is all of these, but some definitely are!)
New rule this year: If you post "Play more indie games" during the game awards, you are required to make a thread recommending 50 of them.

Over the past 20 years, I find myself performing less and less colposcopy and LEEP procedures. These procedures are literally becoming extinct because of the HPV vaccine!!!

Never been so happy to be obsolete.
Also very cool: a study from 2024 found that in Scottish women fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine in 2008, *no* cases of cervical cancer have been found. Not a single one. 100% success rate.

Co-author: "It is [now] possible to make cervical cancer a rare disease.”

the idealism of the superhero is that someone, given incredible power and not held accountable by anything except their own moral code, will choose to do good things and help people. because that is, honestly, what most people do when given power and held accountable only by their own moral code
People ask me why do you like superheroes. Aren’t you a little old for all that?

Well what if we had someone like Superman show up on the scene about now? I love superheroes because they represent the best in us and an opportunity with superpowers to make a positive change in a broken world.

Even though I myself thought at first that Stalker was too slow, now if someone says that I bristle
(the slowness is a feature - it's needed)

And how much easier it is to defend something that's considered a classic, a work with books written about it, than something new and/or obscure
