I'm a hippie-geek - I spend my time gaming, coding, and gardening. Black lives matter. Trans lives matter. I want to live in a world where we care for each other. For work, I do front-end web development in Drupal for the UUA. Oberlin alum.

What PISSES ME OFF relentlessly about all this is the gaslighting:

tech industry: "AI will make everything faster/easier"

Reality: AI creates an incredible amount of work for me trying to uninstall, escape, move to whole new platforms/tech to get away from it

Sobering thread. LLMs are helping deluded people organize, expand, and spread their delusions.

These are monstrously destructive products that no healthy society should condone, much less enable, subsidize, and partner with.
Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

when we talk about efforts to "erase DEI" can we be more precise and say "efforts to re-segregate workplaces and schools"

Thread. “AI is patching up the holes in conspiracy theories and so making them seem more reasonable, making them easier to spread and more resilient to collapse” was not on my bingo card.

AI relieves the pressure of cognitive dissonance. That’s … not great.

The crime of genocide didn't exist until after WW2. It was something we decided was real, needed to be identified and punished. Even if we've been spectacularly bad at putting it in practise, we conceptualised it.

I think it's about time for a CEO crime of murder-by-Economy.

This all on the leader of the MAGA #scotus ↘️

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.
