Edmonton eightplexes everywhere zoning... Calgary downtown parking pricing meant to get people to take the LRT into downtown rather than drive... We can take a lot of inspiration from 'berta's market urbanism.

i am happy to be one of those 10.6 million. i couldn't live as a nonbinary person in my home country. i definitely wouldn't' have the same opportunities back home.

more people should be able to move to here, but canada would sooner choose to close its doors than build for the future

Been saying this for years (Then again, did live in Oxford for years...).

Everyone forgets those lovely Victorian buildings next to those equally lovely Georgian ones were a modern eyesore once & made conservative victorians spit with rage. Ditto the Georgian ones next to the Tudor ones &c &c
okay at this point I’m just procrastinating BUT! This is one of my favourite topics because! At some point, in probably about a century, ppl are gonna look at those brutalist council housing blocks that survive and think they’re lovely/aesthetic/whatever. How do I know?
Jericho.
I've never been to Oxford, but I always enjoyed Bill Bryson's comment that it's like at some point in the 60s the Council went "You know what? We've been putting up handsome buildings for 600 years. Let's have some ugly ones for a change."

I wonder if these services end up importing content restrictions from 'Merica or we have a Japan Credit Bureau situation where the differences in acceptable content paid by credit cards means a proliferation of things you wouldn't see from companies impacted by Visa/Mastercard.

In the Toronto Star I write about Toronto Police's violent corruption scandal. Will it move the needle on police reform? It's a dramatic escalation in a long history of police intimidation, bullying their critics & broken trust. I argue 3 big things have to happen, including firing this chief.
Shawn Micallef: Toronto is facing its worst police corruption scandal in decades. Here are three things that need to happen soon
The corruption revealed by Project South undermines the public trust that is the foundation of policing.

as an actual child i remember reading lorne gunter and going "god this guy is an absolute dingdong" and 30 years later he's still crudding up the journal.

anyway, if he's right, hell yeah edmonton city council fantastists
If any journalist would like to challenge or counter the "neighbourhood destroyer" trope with someone who lives with infill and thinks the exact opposite, you can figure out how to be in touch. Or just ignore those who support, as is the norm.

Lorne Gunter: Edmonton city council fantasists unlikely to reduce multiplex limits
For the advocates for eight-plexes, this isn’t mostly about affordability. It about the environment and social justice.
